Scratching my head on this one. I don't have an AR10 mag to compare it to, but I think to get M14 magazines to fit in, the latch plate needs to come off. The reference to Bushmaster's .308 is inaccurate, though, as they used FN/ FAL magazines. RRA's LR-308 was the same.

There are two types of "ar-10" magazines.

Theres the DPMS pattern , and the Armalite pattern.

The magpul pmag 20LR are the DPMS pattern.

I believe DPMS pattern rifles are becoming the industry standard.

Nevertheless, the AR 308's that use a M-14 magazine body have the rear lug removed..............So does this gun just use the castrated Mag bodies of M-14 mags or do they seat an actual M-14 mag with the rear lug.

It takes AR-10 ( DPMS) mags. 5 round to 30 round will work.
I have one of these MVP's in 308 and so far the ASC black metal mags are running fine. The rifle eats brass and steel with no issues, so far.

I sold a Savage 110 to get this rifle because the Savage was limited to a 4+1 mag. 10 round Mag extensions were $99 each, so it did not make sense to keep it when AR-10 20 round mags are $15.00. The savage was a great rifle, but I have to admit the MVP is also, and much cheaper to add mags.

20 round mags seem to be the sweet spot price wise because they are not too long when inserted into the gun and price is lower than the 15 round mags, typically.

I cannot recall which particular magazine it was, but while grocery shopping yesterday evening I came across a current gun magazine that contained a review of the .308 MVP.

The writer did comment that he wasn't sure that MVP was appropriate, given that it stands for "Mossberg Varmint Predator", but I think that he has a narrow view of just what or who a predator is.

Anyway, the new gun takes M14 magazines and at less than 8 pounds and equipped with a fairly short barrel, would seem to be an excellent candidate for a Scout Rifle. In fact, given that it takes M14 mags, I think the Mr Cooper would be particularly pleased.

I don't know when it will hit the market, but I would be surprised if it takes more than another month or so.

Here is a review.

.

I use a .308 as my coyote rifle, it is a tad bit rough on the fur but they don't run off wounded.
