Owned a few of them over the years but this one has to be my favorite. After 3 years of gathering parts, it's finally happened! Well it happened a couple of years ago but it's still like yesterday to me..

It's a true to spec M40a5 minus the receiver, having never been in the Marine Corps inventory and some minor tweaks with the Scope. Built by Shawn Shoemaker, a retired 2112, now a lead instructor at the 2112 school at Quantico's famed Precision Weapons Section.

Repurposed Remington G prefix 6.6 mil .243 receiver with Badger recoil lug and scope base
Gary Schneider M40 contract barrel
Surefire QD Flash Hider
Badger M5 bottom metal with AICS mag
True to form mk24 trigger
McM a5 M40 contour with the Sniper Fill
PGW NVG mount

All of which is topped off with a Schmidt and Bender LP CW DT P4F 1cm 3x12x50 snugged in there tightly with some Badger USMC 34mm rings plus all the little accoutrements like the bipod, sling, and sling swivels. The hardest parts to get were the PGW mount and the mk24 trigger. The rest was wheeling and dealing.

Test group:

LR118 .6 MOA
FGMM 168gr 1.0 MOA
FGMM 175gr .9 MOA

For those that don't know, the Marine Corps fires three 5 shot groups at 300 yards and then works out the average to get their test group

Still haven't had a chance to work on a load for her again as the same factory load doesn't group anywhere close to what it did before the stock change.
Nice rig. What cartridge are you running?

She is just a plain jane 308 win. Used to shoot factory 175 smks at .2, but now it's out to an inch. I have to try and figure out what is going on by playing with a few things.

Just have to say this thread really gave me the bug for a good bolt gun, some really nice stuff in here! My project is only just starting to materialize. I picked up a .308 SPS Varmint the other day, have a very good deal pending on a viper PST 4-16 ffp mrad, and plan to put it in a XLR Carbon Chassis as funds allow. Will take a while but should be very fun when complete.

So some progress, my sps varmint is now residing in a XLR carbon chassis. I have an Atlas on it, the KRG bolt lift and Brownells steel one piece mount. All I am waiting for is the scope and rings, and it could be a while since I am looking at a gen 2 PST ffp 3-15. The XLR really is a 5 minute swap, I can't imagine how it could be any simpler.

Here's one I picked up in trade. A 1965 Winchester model 70 Target in 30-06 signed by Maj. Jim Land. Has a Malcolm 8x optic on it in a M70 configuration. Probably post it in the BX as I have nowhere to shoot it. :(
