I got this old girl in trade about three years ago, and shes as accurate as the K31 I got five years before she came to the stable.

You can't go wrong with a Swiss rifle.

a swiss 1911 was the first high power rifle i owned. my uncle bought it for me at a woolco dept. store down here in s. louisiana in 1970. it was $18.50. 4boxes of ammo was another $2.00..it was scary accurate, for a 15 year old kid. when i ran out of ammo a few months later, i went back and they were out and couldn't get any more. i kept it for a few more years and traded it for a semi- auto .22. one of the worst decisions of my young life.
everytime i see one at a gun show now i want to kick my ass...live and learn

Those are some beautiful rifles. I have switched from the Swede to the K-31 for vintage bolt matches and outfitted another K-31 with the Swiss Products diopter to try out in the 600yd matches this year. I hope to add one of the longer women to the stable this year.

They are certainly capable at that range. This is a video I made shooting a 96/11 at a gong at 500 meters with the standard sights on it.

First few shots were to get on target then it was all over for the gong.

I have oly had the chance to shoot some 100 and two hundred yard targets and some 300+ yard seel plates with the GP11. The long receiver and bolt are a long stroke but the thing shoots. Smoooooth action like,,well i won't say. Just think slick they can't build today.

Thumbs up Schmidt-Rubens

Great Thread and great pictures, that comment on Nitrous Oxide cracked me the “F$%k Up!!!!

I have handled many of the Swiss Straight pull rifles and all of them were in excellent shape. But I always said no….. I don’t shoot or reload enough for all that I have currently, but the Schmidt-Rubens are certainly some wonderfully built rifles to be sure…

It would be fun to put up an IT team armed with Schmidt-Rubens (Sounds like a Deli Sandwich) 96/11’s against an IT team armed with GI M1903s and see what the outcome would be…?? I looked up on Bing and read more about the Schmidt-Ruben series of service rifles. And wow does the sniper version look very cool!!!!

Many Thanks to the OP for starting this thread and all the neat pictures that have been posted.

Great YouTube video too, I’m surprised with that wind the trace was still visible. Vey Neat!!! Good shooting..

Thumbs up Loading data for the Schmidt-Rubin

Hey 6094,

I just checked my original Hornady reloading manual dtd 1973 and it said that regular .308 bullets can be used. On page 191 it says,

“The model 11 7.5mm Schmidt-Rubin cartridge, a more potent version of the first cartridge developed for the 7.5mm rifle was loaded with a .307” 174 grain bullet to a velocity 2720.”

That is pretty spiffy ballistics!!!

What type of loading do you use? My original Hornady manual stated that the data shown was to be used for only the Models 96/11, 1911 and Model 31 rifles. Hornady states the fact that the case head is not fully supported and overloads can be catastrophic to the firearm and the shooter. I should get a late printing Hornady manual and compare the data as listed.
