| Scope for .50 BMG
Just picked up an Armalite AR-50A1. Got a great deal and couldn't pass it up. Now I'm trying to figure out what optic to put on it. I'm thinking the Leupold 4.5-14x50 Mark 4 ER/T and Badger Max 50 rings.

Night force scopes are used a lot by the shooters in the FCSA matches. Leupold mk 4 and newer version work but are not as popular.

I started of with a Super Sniper 16X on my Styer HS-50, then went to a Burris Black Diamond. [It went south after 60 rounds, but they fixed it for free and it has been fine since]
I have a Leupold MK-4 on my ALS but have not shot it yet.
NightForce do seem to dominate at the FCSA 1000 yard matches but you will see a few MK-4's. When you are starting out with a fifty and do not want to spend a lot of cash on glass the Super Sniper is a great scope for the money, I have about 500 rounds on mine and have not had any problems yet, I carry it as a back up scope for matches now and the nice about them you can allways sell them for almost what you paid for them when you upgrade.

50 Cal lots of power. And so should you have on a scope. You want lots of power. If I were you I would like something in the 5-25 range with a large objective lens. Also would want lots of adjustments in my scope. Strength, a scope to hold up to the big 50's recoil. Night Force would be on my list of choices, maybe Leupold but Shepard would not.

If your budget is ~$1500, it would be hard to beat a used Nightforce NXS 5.5-22. I shot a McMillan TAC-50 with this scope and it was a good pairing.

| Rings
Oranges and apples on those two choices. Badgers always play well and I have more than a few sets of rings from them. The Uni mount is also a well made product and has a 20 MOA down base. Something you won't get from the Badger rings. What I would try to figure out between those two choices are First down I need 20 MOA down base, then with will let the scope sit closest to the bore. Nice choice on the scope you wouldn't be disappointed with that on a 50

Casey | You did better than me - my 16X SS lasted 16 rounds and blew the top turret off on a SHF 50. I'll be looking at other options too!

I was up till midnight last night reading reviews in the SS. Everyone loved it. I didn't read any negative reviews. Well I ordered one. Figured I couldn't go wrong for $399. If I don't like it I'll throw it on an AR or something.

Ok small rant, you got a rifle that is about $3,300 or more new, you got a great price say what 1,000- 1,500 off, and you think a $400 is going to hold up to a 50 cal round. I have no problem with cheaper priced gear but sometimes you get what you pay for and I just don’t see a $400 hanging in there with a fifty. Ok rant over.

I only shoot out to 350 yds. I put a 35mm Millett, 6x25, on one when they first came out. Still on there and no problems. On another I have a 6x24 Nikon. Before the Nikon I had a 8.5x25Leupold. All have worked well enough for the short range that I shoot. If I was able to shoot long range, I would choose the Night Force.
BTW, I put the Leupold on a Stag mod.# 6.
