Sako TRG-S

I purchased a Sako TRG-S in 7mm Rem Mag about 15 or so years ago and have been using it as my primary deer rifle ever since. It's been a tack driver from day one and once I figured out what it liked to eat it's been a 5 shot ragged whole gun. It has one of the smoothest actions and best triggers I've run across in a production rifle. The thing is I've never run across anyone else that had one and was wondering if anyone else here currently has or had one and what kind of experience you had with it.

Have one in .338 Lapua Mag. My experience is the same as yours. I have had this one bedded and it will hold half a minute. Very nice rifles.

Thank you,
Mr.Smith

I've been thinking about buying a new bolt, barrel and stock for mine and making it into a 300WM. I'd like a 338 but the damn ammo is so expensive and that would be a little much for deer or elk. Hell, even a 300WM is a little much but hey more firepower. I shoulda bought 2 when I got this one as they were only $450 new at the time.

I've been thinking about a 300wm, and I've heard great things from the few that have sako's. Anyone recommend these over a Rem 700?

I have both and I like the Sako action and stock trigger better than the stock 700. I have the M995 Magnum action in mine which is bascially the same as the TRG-42 so I have the option of going to either a 300WM or 338LM if I rebarrel it. You can probably find one used for around $800 from what I've seen. But 700s are easier to come by and won't cost as much to make it your own.

I will say that my Sako has a much, much smoother action than any 700 I've handled and I've not had any work done to it. Then again you can probably find more smiths to work on a 700 than a Sako.
