Rebuilding a classic

Posted August 21st, 2011 at 06:58 PM by BagemTagem

Over the last few months i have had the pleasure of meeting "M14 celebrities" and discussing issues and solving problems with some of the greats behind the famed rifle.

In that time i have learned quite a bit about the rifle. Things like USGI parts vs standard modern parts, the different stock options available, and even the small stuff like armorers tools like the Throat erosion gauge and the gas cylinder piston "No-Go" tool.

My rifle was a steal if there were any! At a cool grand i picked up a hell of a deal and soon after the work commenced. As some of you know it was a spray painting nightmare, complete with a goofy leaf pattern on all seven mags and front to back on the parkerized finish. My fiancee and I made quick work of that with some simple paint stripper and a gi brush.

Other things that need replacement was the gas cylinder plug(which was knarled up from what could only be vise grips) the handguard, sling, and the stock. The stock is in the mail now and was purchased from fortymikemike here on the forums.

Overall it has truly become a timeless classic that will never just sit in a safe. I shoot it every week, clean it every week, and grease it every week. She gets the attention she deserves in home that appreciates her company

Any links to threads or photos that you would care to share about this rifle?

Also any changes that you may have made (and have posssibly reversed) as you've learned the rifle would be interesting.
