USGI Parts, M14/M1A, Relative value by contractor

Hi,

I'm new to this whole "shopping for USGI" parts activity. I've heard and read several different company names mentioned all over this forum.

All things being equal when comparing identical used but serviceable USGI parts, are there any which are more valuable than others simply because comany "a" only made 20,000 of them while company "b" manufactured 80,000 of them?

Receivers
Bolts
Trigger Assemblies
Op-rods
Gas Cylinders
Gas Pistons
Flash Suppressors
Stocks (I know, very subjective to grain pattern, condition, etc.)

Thanks,

Coach

P.S. I am not trying to sell any parts, nor am I searching for actual dollar values, just general trends of which manufacturer's parts "by type" are prized more than others simply because of who made them. (I.E. Brand "A" made better bolts, but brand "B" made better receivers, but brand "c" is rare because only a limited run was done. Or maybe parts with certain markings indicate a more prized find than others with later marks. I do believe that this question is history related. Sorry if some of you disagree.

Today's prices reflect today's supply and demand.

Supply: Many functions determine today's supply. How many were made does not necessarily impact how many survive. And then you have how many of them got into the market. Over the years there have been a few items where not many were made, but most all survived and got out into the market.

Demand: What customers' want depends upon the value compared to commercial equivalents, if any. In the case of TRW its reputation makes TRW parts more sought, therefore higher prices.

I hope this answers your question.

TRW and Saco-Lowell tend to command a premium over the other USGI parts makers. Also, Canadian Arsenals Limited M14 barrels have a pretty good reputation.
