| Special Forces Help (Army) POSER??
I work at a gun shop and of course we get our fair share of crazy customers with army/military stories. I always play along and would never doubt someone's honorable service.
We recently got a new employee that is/was in the army. Im not sure if he is still active duty or not but he is quite young, probably under 25.
Anyways he always talks about special forces. He says that he is special forces. He says that he is a sniper. He shows off special forces tattoos, not that this is indicative of a member of special forces, but who would get one if they weren't part of it.
I don't doubt him being in the army, I've seen the military ID. He told me that there is a secret special forces ID that he cannot show me, but it proves he was SF.
I am sick of him BSing customers and fellow employees. Another fellow employee is a military historian and knows a lot about the army. He questioned him about what group sf he belonged to and the guy said "4th group" which I was told doesn't exist. Then all his answers were total BS.
Anyways ive never met someone who was in special forces but Ive met a lot of veterans and they dont speak about their service like this kid does.
Also what kind of sniper has a barska scope on a 700?
How do I get to the truth on this one?
Thanks guys

Call him out and tell him he is FOS. I never heard of any SF having a secret id. If it was a secret document it would not be in his pocket. I worked in MI and anything that was secret/top secret/SCI was marked so and extremely controlled. No such animal as far asI am concerned. Where was he stationed? Where did he do his training. Lets put it this way at 25 years old chances are slim because there are very few operators that go in straight off the street. Most of the guys go in on there second tour after filing a 4187(dream sheet). Chances are he is foes. If he keeps telling you its secret that would be a real god indicator he is lying.

Sounds like you already have the truth to this one. This is strictly a management problem. If this guy is running his mouth to customers in your gun shop then it weakens the credibility of everyone that works there. Tell this young man to please be professional, do his job, and knock the BS off with the customers. If you let him continue his fantasy life with the people that come into the shop he'll make a joke at of all of you. There is no place in business for a person that puts the reputation of his workplace on the line to make himself feel important. One day he might even run into someone that was actually in the Special Forces, Nip it in the bud.

A person with clearances who is worth anything doesn't tell talk about classified subjects, especially to people without a need to know.

I too work part time at a gunshop to support my habits and if one of my employees was running his damn mouth about some lies, especially about the service- he'd either be fired or Id whoop his ass.
You COULD as to see his DD214, anything hes done will be on there. SF training isent super secret squirrel.
This guy is going to eventually damage your reputation and business, and if he is FOS, I wouldnt stand for it for one more minute.
What kind of DB gets tats of things hes never done? I bet hes a 42A hahaha (paper pusher)

Ask him how many jumps he had to make to become airborne qualified. The answer is five, ask how many of them were at night, all but one of my jumps at school were at night. Come to think of it all the jumps I ever made were at night except that one. Ah the good ol days. Ask where he had to go for his initial SFQC If the answer is not Camp Mackall or he flounders on his answer you pretty much know the deal. Ask him how long the course was 24 days.

I'm a retired Marine so I'm not an expert on Army Special Forces Groups but by just doing a little checking on the Inet it looks like there is no 4th SF group because there is actually a 4th Psychological Operations Group.
When you look up a list of Army SF groups they have a 3rd and 5th SF group but no 4th, most likely because the Army already designated this psych group as the 4th and the military doesn't like creating the chance for there to be confusion when communicating between groups or units.
The kid is BS artist. If he has a military ID then report his little behind to a local Army recruiter, especially if the recruiter has served time in combat with a combat arms unit. He would be more than happy to jack this kid's ass up and they have the authority to do it if the kid has an active military ID.
I used to do a lot of security work and as stated earlier, if there were such a thing as a classified ID of some sort the kid would not be allowed to carry it around with him since it must be secured in a safe somewhere when not in use. There is no such thing as a secret ID for SF in any service, some units do have unique cards and coins and such that they hand out to their members but that is fraternity kind of thing and is usually not officially sponsored by the military.

Yeah, first of all there is no "special ID"...my brother was in the 20th SFG; no such thing as a "special ID."
82nd ABN, the Army is, and has for a few years, been recruiting "kids" straight-off-the-street for SF (its a shame they are but the military is hurting). They still have to go through a stringent interview process though.
Birdmang, your boss should be able to acquire his DD214. Chances are is he went through the try-outs and failed when it came time for the real training.
Just my 2cents

I see a ton of guys that were "Special Ops" that were SOAR or Intell and try to play it off as SF. He could have been involved in Special Operations or worked with SF guys. Some riggers that as stationed with guys at Groups say they're SF. Some LRS guys that get attached to SF think they're SF and that's all they talk about. I've also seen people that were straight leg grunts(non airborne infantry) with Ranger and SF tabs tatted on "in memory of a family member."
SF guys are USUALLY very humble and try not run their mouth about it. I have yet to see one run around and boast about it. Marines usually do that ;)

I'm a Marine. I worked alongside SF & Rangers.
The SF "Q" course should be listed in his DD214. He may not have been on the "A" teams (operators). There are folks on the "B" teams who support the A's that call themselves "SF".
Plus, the SF run a few schools: armorer, medic, dive (or they did in the 80's) and I've known a few folks who claim they are SF afterwards.
I've yet to meet a leg SF.
Heck, I've seen AF guys claim to be SF because they supported an op.
