| Anyone here serve as an ALL American????
When were you in the 82nd and what unit were you in???? Just thought I would reach out and see how many 82nd members we had on the forum. Also has anyone been back for All American week lately? Miss those days.

Hey jaildog thanks for the reply! Would have retired myself but cracked a bone in my back and blew out a disk. Got out and started my second education. One of these days I want to go back for a visit.

Been there, done that. Stove mine in on Holland(1st assignment) and then Sicily (2nd assignment). The infantry brigades were rough then. Thought I'd have learnt the first time. Were we as hard headed then?

Old post I know but I was in "the" Division as well. I served in 1/504 PIR.
I recall a All American week where one of my soldiers asked a WW2 vet how many jumps he had, my soldier was proud of his jump log.
The vet answered 3
Salerno...Normandy...Holland.
I was impressed and still am by these gentlemen.

Hello again E.R.I.C! When I thought about joining the 82nd the rich history was a driving force behind my decision as I am sure it was the reason for many. Not to mention the extra pay and them jump wings. He k I could go on all night. I was not a ground pounder like you and Jaildog. I was in the Air Cav. I plan on getting down to Bragg one of these days, hopefully next All American week. Thanks for volunteering two times brother!

Old Salt,Was with the 82d from early'67 first with the 2/508"Fury From The Sky" then with 3/503"The Rock" until we deployed overseas late Sept.'67(via troopship USS Wibble) to make the 4th line battalion of the 173d Abn.Bde.(Sep)...I believe the 2d came from Okinawa, the 1st and the 4th from Ft.Campbell,Kentucky(101st Abn) and us from Ft.Bragg,NC Regards Robert McKee |

Old Salt Sorry ,but the ships name is USS Wiegle and it took us 30 days arriving in Qui Nhon,SVN 31 Oct.'1967....1st break down, stop at Midway Is. (rudder problem ), 2nd breakdown,Subic Bay,PI(prop) 2 1/2 days . The first day we(USA) got in soo many fights with the navy and the marines that the captain restricted us back on the ship until we left Subic and later, hit part of a typhoon before VN...Oh! later I found out that besides us 3/503 Inf.there was the 3/506 Inf(101st),a signal battalion and other supporting units...The ship held thousands of troops including our jeeps, mules, trucks and what not.....Brought back alot of memories!! I served in the Marines. However, my brother served in the
82nd Airborne and was activated to the Dominican Republic in 1965. Lots of street fighting in Santo Domingo...
