I would say if you have inject yourself with the Mark 1 kit you are probably already dead, or close to it.

Once saw the NBC Sgt shoot himself thru the hand with one of those needles. Was pretty funny to watch!

I totally concur, words well spoken...

In all seriousness, all of us no matter what our COMPO, RA, NG, USAR, who served in those Cold War year times are all really damned glad the balloon never went up.. Cause if it would have, Europe as we know it, would make Chernobyl look like a National park…

And look at those few situations during Gulf #I when M8 alarms did go off, but everyone seemed okay???, then some bright bulb(s) in the TOC said, "turn that damned thing off", but in actuality there were in fact detecting agents drifting in. I can’t remember the specifics, but I know it did happen.. Maybe someone else here can elaborate on the situation I just spoke of????

I can say that it is MUCH easier to breathe and actually do manual labor type stuff in the new masks. When qualifying small arms we take the protective screen off and kinda just tilt the rifle at 45 degrees and press our visor as a cheekweld to try and get some sort of sight alignment...hard to explain unless you've actually worn one.

I really wish they'd develop some sort of new gloves, something with more "touch" to them. Tasks that would take about 20-30 seconds would become damn near impossible. I would take one of the gloves off during a CORI if no one was around just so I could do my job.

I think they eliminated (So to speak.) it from the new common tasks as the JSLIST suit is resistant to…moisture.

A PL I knew volunteered to test the new NAK many years ago. Messed him up for about a week. He's a COL today.

Edit: The old MOPP suit was never tested against live agents. If you were a chemical dood who went thru the live agent chamber at Ft. McClellan and want to fight the VA over it, send me a PM. I know the lady who fielded the JSLIST and she was able to help a friend of mine who developed seizures after he was exposed in training. Can't say how it will turn out as he died of a seizure before we got it all the way through, but it never hurts to try.

You could have been in the Air Force at Al Kharj Air Base. Some idiot officer in all his glory decided the bunkers only needed to be old oil drums filled with sand. NO overhead cover. Couple hundred people inside. After the first time the alarms went off at night, a few aircraft maintenance troops thanked me for being there with them. I was a SP and easily recognizable as we were the only ones that went around armed. I asked them what I was going to do against an incoming scud. After that my squad made a decision to not go to the "bunkers" again. After that, if the alarms went off when we were sleeping. We donned our MOPP suits/masks and went back to bed. The first one done ran out and turned off the ac unit for those thick vinyl tents. We figured the tent was better protection against a chemical attack than being in the open as we wouldn't be directly exposed to any liquid agents.

They don't go anywhere, they aren't authorized.
