| EoTech for my friend On Deployment???
Hi guys,
My friend is a mechanic in a Chemical Company for the Army and he's currently in Kuwait. He's been issued an M249 without an Optic and I was thinking about sending him one to use on it. Little chance he will use it but assuming he may I could use your advice.
Assuming he can get clearance to use an optic on his weapon I have an Aimpoint Comp M2 so it's nightvision compatible but I have a EoTech 512 that is not nightvision compatible. The Eotech seems like a better optic for a M249 anyways. He said his company is too 'poor' to be issued nightvision but his helmet does have a rhino mount for it. I mean... you never know he may have to see combat and they may give him nightvision right?
Anyways, would an Eotech 512 hold up on an M249? The 552 Eotech is nightvision compatible and (at least on the eotech website says its very tough and can handle heavy weapons). Having never held a 552 it looks like a 512 to me except with a nightvision setting.
What do you guys know about the differences in those optics? And do you think I would need a riser/mount for the Eotech. I've never seen a M249 in person but it looks like an Eotech is too high to co-witness anyways so it probably doesn't really matter.
Thanks a lot fellas, I may just send him a care package without the Optic if he can't use it anyways.

I spent 2010 in Kuwait near the Iraq border. Trust me, your friend doesn't need an EoTech. Spend the money on some e-books or a Garmin Fitness watch.

I guess I'd be more like just gifting him an optic to use if he got back to the states or something.
Either way, do you guys think a 512 would hold up on a 249?

I've seen an EOTech on a SAW before...it worked okay.
But yeah, send him some beef jerky or a loaded iPod or something.

Like hes stationed there or is just passing through? Everyone passes through Kuwait at one point or another.
I wouldn't worry too much about getting busted, I've shipped countless "firearms accessories" and never had anything confiscated. But it is technically against some law.
But as for the actual question. Eotech all the way. Nothing beats an Eotech in the holo sight area, yes it will hold up, I had one mounted on my SAW at one point. The fact that it isn't night vision compatible is moot. Everyone wears Nvds on there helmet anyway, in other words wont ever mount it to the weapon itself.
Hope this helps.

contact him and funnel it through his base commander here in the states,or local army reserve located nearby.therefore, you would not be violating export laws

Thanks for all the info guys, sorry I didn't reply sooner.
He was going to check with a superior to see if he'd be able to mount it but he never got back to me so I never sent it. I kind of knew it would never get used anyway.
I ended up sending him a bunch of 4x4 magazines, a maxim mag, a xbox mag, a hustler and a fat chick mag lol. Like 25 bags of beef jerky, a nomex balaclava, some work gloves, a Gemtech flag and a Cold Steel tanto combat knife.

Dont buy an EOTech, if you get him a red dot get a Aimpoint or other, Ive owned and used EOTech exclusively but they always end up w/ issues, the battery life is way shorter than an Aimpoint and they are just problematic, my friend is on his second and its showing issues
