Fort Benning infantry OSUT Oct./Nov. 1982

Did anyone attend BCT/Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning beginning in either October or November 1982? If so, what was your graduation date? Thank you.

Thanks for your response. Do you remember when the BCT/OSUT began?

OSUT One station unit training.

Mine began as soon as I got there.

It was 16 weeks of the best hell ever. (-) a few days shutdown for xmas.

No holidays observed.

No breaks to differentiate between basic training and advance training.

Harmony Church, the old wooden barracks. Fuggin 4 day ice storm killed the boilers so we got to eat old leftover c-rations. My cycle actually changed from greens to woodland pattern BDUs

Wow, I can't believe they still had C rations then. I thought MREs were already being used. It is also interesting that you were there when the camos changed from olive drab to Woodland. I appreciate the info.

Harmony Church is an actual church? I didn't realize that. My son graduated from BCT back in May 2010. I believe the ceremonies were held next to the chruch but I could be mistaken. When were MREs introduced?

Charlie Commandos... 2 - 54!

1994... lived in new starships... there after wooden barracks, but well before stress cards. Remember the old wooden barracks down the street... also remember attending Harmony church as a means to get out of buffing the barracks.

I got out in JAN 1983 and MREs were coming. I never had one we ate Cs. But we heard they were on the way.

You listed c-2-2 as your company. Were you in 1st platoon?

I went into basic at Ft Jackson at the tail end of April 82, C-rats is almost a curse word but they sure did the trick when you were hungry. So how many of you ate everything you could get your hands on and were still hungry. I feel like the movie platton with what I'm about to tell you. Remeber the doughnut seen? One of the guys stole an entire apple pie from the mess hall. Yup the old wooden one at the end of the company area with yes the wooden WWII barracks. Anyway, guy got busted. Turns out it was made special for the CO. You can only imagine what the first shirt did to that guy. Do any of you know whatthe grease pits are? The ones next to the mess halls? Well that dude used to take a bath in it each and every evening. That smell at the bottom is the most undescribable smell I have ever encountered. Something you just have to experience.

OSUT
Charlie 2/54 started 27Feb 2002... no stress cards either... it was the best 16 weeks of fun...

the pure hell was spending 27 days at the 30th AG... waiting to start OSUT!

Amazing to me to see how many went AWOL form the 30th AG... weed out the non hackers early!

Nothing breaks in a pair of comabt boots like 100 miles of Benning roads!

C-2-2, Third Platoon, SFC Keaton was my Drill SGT.

Harmony Church, one of the old wooden barracks, cold as hell. Same bunk for all 16 weeks.

Only in FBGA can you hump uphill for 12 hours and wind up right back where you started, never seeing the downhill side! (I'm sure it just seemed like that).

Shoot... we got some old folks in here.

I graduated from basic and 11B AIT school at Benning in '87. Also, I completed my jump school there (both jump and pathfinder actually). Harmony Church... that location had slipped from my memory until reading this thread. I barely recall anything about my Benning days... between nightly "fire watch" and sleep deprivation (due to the "stress training") I was a zombie walking/running around.

Our AIT class/year was apparently (or so we were told) the last "stress" training the U.S. Army engaged in. They went to their new "softer and gentler" training method thereafter.

I was in Charlie 2-2, 3rd platoon from 12/81 to 3/82 attending OSUT. This was an old set of WW2 barracks that had 2 floors. It was appx 16 weeks. I remember some people electing to go home for a short break for christmas. I elected to stay. I'd done 2 weeks at a receiving station at Fort Jackson before going to Harmony Church. There was beautiful weather in Jackson but it was cold as hell when we got to Georgia. We were one of the first training companies to be issued the "new" Woodland pattern BDUs. Sad thing was that they didn't yet have the field jackets to match lol. The company area chow was good and I actually like the C-rats better than the MRE's. Had one of the hardest but best times in my life and made some friends that I still miss to this day.
