National Guard problems.

I have a friend who is a member of the Virgin Islands NG. He has been continuously getting screwed by the CG on down because he is not a born and bred local. Would there happen to be any way to get his issues addressed? The IG is not helping and his wife has cancer treatment undergoing but they are not giving him any leeway. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't understand. If he is already a sworn-in member why is his citizenship an issue?

How is he getting screwed?

I didn't even know there were NG units in the Virgin Islands. How exactly is he getting screwed?

Contact NGB

Take it to a level higher and contact someone in Legal at NGB (National Guard Bureau). NGB will get it all “Lined Out” I’m pretty sure… Or contact someone in the V.I. Territorial Government who is the equivalent of a congressman or someone with the political pull to get this properly addressed.

Don't Take No for an Answer!!!

Based on the limited information you have provided, it sounds as though he has a basis for a legitimate EEO complaint. Tell him to see his unit/base EEO representative.

All these posts are about the best route. Althought if he has already been screwed by the CG then I would go straight to the NG Bureau. They should straighten that whole thing out

Back in my days in the service, the Chaplain can do wonders when no one else could. He can knock on closed doors and it shall be opened.

"Screwed over" is a pretty broad complaint. What are they doing to him? Not giving him leeway regarding training time vs. being with his wife when she has treatment? If his chain of command won't allow him to SUTA (drill at different times than his unit) he can go higher. But if, as you say, there's a bias, all that will do is piss everyone off even more. He can go the IG or legislative route OR, and this is a "nuclear option", he can request to be reassigned to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR). He can, if he wants to, get reassigned to the active reserve component again later down the road.

Most often the Unit Administrator or Admin. Officer (full timers) can "influence" the decision to allow a SUTA or split drill status.
