I have a treasured first edition hard cover I bought at Powells in Portland, OR back in August of 08.

A must read for all who want to know where the rubber met the road in the Pacific in WWII...

I just put "Helmet for My Pillow" by Robert Leckie in my Amazon shopping cart.

Sand In The Wind

Robert Roth served in Vietnam as a Marine. This is a must read book for Vietnam veterans. Especially Marines.

Two of my favourites are books concerning WW1. They are A Rifleman Went To War and The Emma Gees, both by H.W. McBride. They are an excellent read and I highly recommend them to anyone who loves good war stories...

Thumbs up Great titles

Thanks wbm and Seventh Fleet!!!

Here is one for you both. I lost track of it during the Big "D". I originally paid $30.00 for it many years ago through the NRA and now have it in my cart on Amazon. YIKES has it appreciated in price!!!

Shots fired in anger: A rifleman's view of the war in the Pacific, 1942-1945, by John B. George. It includes his personal experience during the campaign on Guadalcanal and fighting with Merrill's Marauders in Burma.

So far this is the best book I have read in relation to the Civil War. It follows the 6th Louisiana all the way from inception to surrender. The reason I liked it so much is that it deals with the life and struggles of the actual soldiers before, during and after battles instead of just breaking down the strategy and outcome of the battles. A lot of it was gleaned from diaries and letters written by the soldiers.

"Das Boot " from Lothar Guenther Buchheim. A lot of interesting details on hydrodynamics. And better than in the film he described the boredom during waiting of the gray wolfes.
