Happens all the time nowdays. The current body armor(IOTV) has a neck collar that we all hate with a passion!! It adds a whole lot of heat and rubbing for about a inch of neck protection. It also acts as a catch for brass. Twice while running through the shoot house(rolling T's, High lowing corners and hall ways) I have caught a hot one in the neck. Ha Ha you have to basically suck it up and curse in your mind till everyone calls an up.
In a way though I guess there is training value in it though.

Was not in the army, bit a little while back I was shooting with some friends and one of them was just in the right position shooting my .40. A case got lucky enough to get lodged in my ear. Boy did that one hurt.

I don't know of anyone who has done much shooting in the military with catching some hot brass somewhere on their body. It is a common issue.

And they guy behind him that grabbed to weapon before it got out of control. We have all had this happen to us. I know flip-flops and short sleeved open type shirts are comfortable, but be prepared to have this happen. dozier

As I was a left handed shooter and we did not have brass defelctors around all the time, many times I did it to myself.

I had several 7.62 casings fly down my shirt once when I was too close to the guy next to me qualifying with his M-60. No scars but a bunch of small 2nd degree burns down my whole chest..

I saw this thread but this never happened to me nor in my presence while I was "in".
However, yesterday night I took a real hottie to the local range and spent a 1/2 hour in there teaching her how to shoot. I warned her to button up her blouse as she stood next to me but she said, "I'll be just fine".
Poor little hottie...
A single .45 caliber (HOT!) brass casing landed on her neckline and trickled down her cleavage nestling right between them bad boys. She did the "brass dance" (Thank heavens for good looking women who jump up and down wearing a low cut blouse!) and she was "just fine" in the end. She buttoned up her blouse thereafter though. Lesson learned.

Well, she later showed me her "brass trail". So yes... I won't be suggesting any blouse closings during future shooting sessions. |

I shoot left handed because of eye dominance. My Ruger 10/22 loves to put them right in the crease of my elbow alot! Happens all the time no scarring though.

Yup had it happen. But I done 1 better! When I was a kid the rage in my neck of the woods was to wear work boots and not have them laced up, let um flop open and all around. Real cool! Ya! Till the time I was cutting an exhaust bracket off my truck with an torch! Blew the bolt off and PLUNK, glowing red hot, right into my boot!
Boot was just tight enough I couldn't get it off! So improvised and over came! The closest thing I could find was the tub of water across the garage that we used to check for leaks in tires. Stuck my whole foot, boot and all in their lookin for relief. Wasn't as quick as I'd hoped as it took a couple seconds for the water to actually penetrate down and around my foot to where the bolt had lodged itself.
Didn't bleed cause it was good and cauterized!
1 week before going to boot camp! Big half dollar sized hole, right on the knuckle of my right big toe! When the guy asked what size boots I answered BIG very big. Went thru the rest of boot camp looking like a duck because my boots were about 4 sizes to big.
Still got a nice scar! And I've properly laced my boots ever since.

Jap, couple of times, but learned to wear sort of a turtleneck-sweater at the range now!
