A bunch of old gunpowder.

I have several cans of Hogdon H066, Dupont 5066 and Dupont #5.
The cans that the powder is in seem to be in good condition, no rust or acidic smells coming from it. I believe the #5 and 5066 are pretty much the same, based on the label of the #5 can, but not sure about the H066, maybe the same also?

I would like to load some of it in the 40s+w cartridges that I have. But I havent been able to find any load data for these powders. I bought an old Hogdon load booklet from ebay the other day in hope that it would have these powders in it to no avail. But there was one powder that may be the #5 powder, and it was listed as HS5 I believe.

Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

I know that there probably won't be any listings for the 40 S+W but thought I could try some reduced loads and find a good one for this caliber.

Thanks, Bob

Here is a little info.

No 40s&w back in the days of this powder. If you want 9mm and 45acp data to use for reference I can do that.

I tried to put this image on this page but it posts it sideways. I'm not to good with these things.

If any of the powder is brown in color, or turning brown in places, Run, don't walk, away from it, and place a narrow trail out in the yard and light it up to dispose of it. Not worth chancing it. Sorry, no info on load data.

Thanks all

No the powder looks just fine, no brown or rust at all. No acidic smell, no jelly either LOL... use to mess around with a lot of dynamite 300 feet beneath the earth, when the dynamite gets old it will start showing clear jelly coming through the wrapper. Yikes! time to get it to the surface for a burn.

M14nm, yes I could use the info you suggested, found a few loads for the 5066 and the #5 which the #5 can says to use 5066 load data, the 5066 and #5 are Dupont marked cans, the little rectangle cans with the really small cap. The H066 is in the regular can just like the can that a lot of makers used just prior to the new plastic pound bottles. I'll check out the data you posted and if you want to PM me the other info or post for all to consume that would be appreciated. I'm thinking the H066 is the same as the other two powders, but won't use it until I see some data on it. thanks bob
