Because of the concerns regarding TZ 80 ammo on this site and others, I avoided running a 500-round can through my M1A.

The ammo I had was packed into cardboard boxes and shipped in a .50 can with a fairly thick styrofoam insert on top. It was good looking ammo with no apparent flaws. Nevertheless, I was sufficiently spooked and linked all 500 rounds and ran them through a 1919. No problems whatsoever!

Realize this is an old thread but saw the 'TZ' reference. I've shot TZZ and TZ (79) without a glitch in both my M1A's. Pulled a few apart to check loads and bullet weights. Yeah, not the best qa at the factory and not match grade, but all shot well without any case problems. I like them to the point of keeping them for SHTF.

I realize this is a old thread. During spring cleaning, I found some T Z 7.62 with headstamp T Z 79. Any issues with this? Also some red primer sealant?

Thanks! Did not do a lot of research. Once I did a search, I found some Israeli ammo bad I started to get excited. (not in a good way!)

Oy!

Just ran across this - I've got a couple thousand TZ 80 less a few hundred fired in my Armscorp receiver/SAK chrome lined bbl M14 with never an issue (can't rule our a small split/trashed brass - run into them every so often in most milsurp, at least I do). I guess I'll relegate it to the Final Days & use my other stuff in the interim...

Had the same thing happen about six years ago when firing a milsurp round with Hebrew markings on the base, though cannot remember the numbers on it. Allot of smoke, blew all the rounds and floor plale out of the magazine.

Checked my Armscorp rifle, fortunately my it was not damaged and neither was I. Continued firing but not with anymore Hebrew marked ammo!

my 2 cents, pull the slugs, throw the powder away, and reload them. We had some of our own .223 handloads get wet and do the same thing(stored in a crawl space that flooded).

I just ran about 75 rds through my SAI a few months back, headstamps "kn" and I believe some TZ in there as well, mostly dated in the mid-70s. I had two nerveracking experiences. First was in the very first mag I loaded, before I chambered a round, I noticed a long scratched groove in the top-most round. A deep one. Made me really leery of the condition of the ammo. I'd just read an article about the gentleman in the ordinance factory who was troubleshooting why some M14s were blowing up, and he tracked it down to the magazine manufacturer (can't remember which one, it was one of the rare ones). In the magazine manufacturing process, a burr consistently did not get ground off, and it left a groove in each round as it entered the chamber, resulting in many ruptured cases and excess pressure which eventually blew up the rifle. So that long, deep groove made me nervous. Then, even worse, I had a hang-fire. About a half second delay, so fortunately it wasn't worse, but it scared me. It was enough that I wondered why I'd only heard the "thunk" of the firing pin, and then, "BOOM", it went off.

I also had a strange FTF that left the bullet halfway in the chamber, and the back end of the casing pinched between the bolt and the face of the chamber, bending and destroying the round. But that could have been the "Made in the US by an unnamed company" mags that I made the mistake of buying from Sportsmans Guide a year or two back. Had lots of problems with those. Only one out of the four I tried even made it through a whole 20 rds without the follower binding up inside the mag.

I purchased a sealed can of 500 TZ80 with the Styrofoam and cardboard 20 round boxes several years ago. They look perfect out of the box. I have fired 80 rounds out of my M1A with no splits or misfires. Most accurate military ball I have shot to date. I think rounds that were wet at one point is the problem. Generally they seem to be purchased loose and have several FTF rounds among the case failures. I'll shoot the other 420 without worry.

Found some of this brass at the range, and after a quick internet search leading me to here I now know to throw it in my scrap bucket.
