Georgia Arms ammo

I'm considering purchasing ammo for my M1A from Georgia Arms. They are 30 minutes away from my house, which is pretty convenient for me. Their prices for 150 grain FMJ and 168 grain Sierra MatchKing BTHP in the Canned Heat packages are pretty good, considering what is the going prices for surplus and Federal Gold Match ammo. GI8

Has there been any issues with Georgia Arms ammo?

There has been some threads here and on some other boards talking about KABOOMs with some of their ammo.

I have a can of their .308, and I visually inspected every round after reading about some of their problems, and I have shot about 10% of their ammo with no problems.

Any ammo can go bad. When you add the number of shooters, and the widespread communication capabilities associated with the internet, I think that it increases awareness of such problems. It doesn't mean that their ammo is more dangerous than any other, you just hear about it more.

That's just my opinion.

Good luck!

Like a previous supply said, there's good and bad with just about everything.

I've only seen one guy shooting this ammo. He had a FTF and when he tried to eject the shell the bullet stayed in the chamber (made a heck of mess dumping all that powder out in the action of that M1A). One of the other guys started measuring more of this ammo and I heard him say that 10% of what he measured was OOS long (incorrect bullet seater adjustment and failure to QC the mistake out prior to shipment). We also noticed that several of the empties either broke (case head separation) on ejection or we broke them picking them up and handling them.

That was one batch in one guys M1A. I'd say if you buy some just check it out good before firing it.

Oh yeah, it shot pretty good groups.

I've shot 10's of 1000's of rounds of Georgia Arms ammo over the years. I've shot it in revolvers, semi-auto pistols, bolt action, lever action, single shot and semi-auto rifles. I have had no more problems with Georgia Arms ammo than I have had with Speer, Federal, Black Hills, Winchester, Remington, etc.

I use GA Arms exclusively for hunting loads in my .308 bolt actions and also my .444 Marlin lever action. Their 150grn ball .30-06 shoots great out of my 1944 M1 Garand.

They're local for me as well. About an hour away.

I have bought several thousand of their ammo in .308 & .223 and have had very good results with it. very accurate and consistant shooting.

The price is right and it has worked for me. BTW, all of my purchases have been in the last several months so I cant speak to past performance. The current stuff is real good.

I bought 100 rounds of their 168gr 308. It is extremely accurate in my M1A. I fired about 40 of the rounds and have had 2 headcase separations and several with split cases (almost head separation). I don't think I'll fire any more of this batch in my M1A. It's either been sized too small or reloaded too many times. I see they buy used brass.

I have purchased their 168 gr ammo for my M1A and it was decently accurate. I had several problems with feeding the ammo as the bullet would come loose from the cartridge as it was fed into the chamber. The ammuniton seems to not have sufficient case neck tension. I would be aware of this as this happened to me about every twenty rounds. Good luck.

GA good stuff

I have bought several thousand rds in 223,308, 45acp, &9mm
good, accurate, reliable, and fairly inexpensive.
I only had 1 issue with a 45 the bullet slid back into the casing
don't know what this is called or what caused it but I culled that round and now I inspect all the rounds before I load them into mags.
Also they ship their ammo in 50 cal cans, which I have found makes good storage for battle packs or other misc. stuff [once you shoot the ammo up]GI1

I took a trip to Georgia Arms today. I bought what I could afford (and what was available) in .308. They had only 400 rounds of 168 grain Sierra MatchKing HPBT available. The rounds look very nice. No problems that I could see.

Apparently, Georgia Arms is having problems getting components. The lady at the counter stated this is the worst she has seen in the twenty years she's been with the company. Brass is hard to get, along with primers. Therefore, .308 150 grain standard loads are not available for at least three weeks! The 168 grain match I bought were the last they had. They have no idea when they will have any available. Arrrrgh!
