I'm not sure what California's reasoning was, but I saw a sensationalist story on Facebook the other day, courtesy of NPR, about a gun range maintenance worker inadvertently giving his kid lead poisoning. Allegedly, the guy was coming home covered in lead dust. Apparently the Obama administration was on a big push to get rid of lead bullets. Until I read the article (posted by a lib), I was not aware of the anti-lead movement.

Better not take the kid fishing, I have said it before. More lead is introduced to the environment through the fishing industry than from shooting. When I was a kid I kept splitshot weights in my mouth while rigging my poles, hell that may be what's wrong with me.

California Condors.

Back in the late 90s a Condor was found dead. It was determined that it died from lead poisoning. So the bird people did some BS study and said it was hunters leaving gut piles with lead fragments in them. Total BS. Not enough hunters leaving enough gut piles with enough lead to poison anything.

So starting in 2007 they were asking hunters to not use lead. In 2008 it became a requirement in condor territory. Then year before last or whatever the leftist pigs in the sate capital passed and moonbeam signed a state wide ban. The state wide ban is simply an attack on hunters to push some out of the sport.

They got Exide to shut down their battery recycling facility in Los Angles a year or too ago.

A freaking recycling facility! Just proves each little special leftist group will eat another. Off topic, but look into the solar facilities on I-15 into Las Vegas. The green energy people had massive faculties built. But then the animal nuts sued and got them to agree to not build anymore solar plants because of the desert tortoise.

Did the same thing with split shot and .20 cal. lead pellets for my Sheridan...but was never tempted to eat lead-based paint.

No wonder they say that "California is like a bowl of Granola - what ain't fruit and nuts are flakes."

Shot placement is important with any round. I've taken Elk in Wyoming with 120-130 gr. .25-'06 ammo. Those projos did not bounce off or fail to penetrate the "thick hide" of an Elk in my experience.

If you're headshotting hogs your bullet choice will matter but for elk and deer it will just come down to what your rifle likes best. A .308 round is going to get through hide no problem.

Barnes makes some really good 'Solids' and have read smoking reviews on the net about loading them in the SOCOM 16 using the 130 gr. bullets. I haven't tried any yet, but they are on my short list.

Those idiots will soon find out that copper kills plantlife. When they see that copper bullets are killing the bristlecone pines and redwoods they'll ban copper too. Then it will be something like bismuth bullets only. Then plastic, then no hunting with bullets, archery only, then no hunting untill some politician hits a deer with his expensive car or a mountain lion mauls their grandkid. It's a never ending cycle of nonsense...
