those crates are all out of stock. doubt we'll ever see them again. sam from sg ammo said that was pretty much a one time purchase.

it's going to be a gamble if you get 1980 hirt from those battle pack orders...

We don't call them battle packs at Sportsman's Guide unless the manufacturer has specifically produced for the military with heavy carry bags like PMC does. It's been over 2 years since I've seen the Hirtenberger in the green battle packs at the Guide. The company would buy it by the wood crate price and then break it into the individual battle packs for retail. You should get lucky and get the reloadable boxer primed brass. If you don't reload I'm sure members here will take it off your hands and pay the shipping costs if you're willing to pick it up at the range after shooting. Hint Hint.

I like the 1975 and 1980 Berdan primed stuff so I don't have to pick it up.

Sorry for the false statement. I will still shoot some of it and stash the rest.

Not a problem. It's good stuff and shoots accurate. Stock up and save for later. It doesn't make any difference if it's reloadable brass it still shoots the same and just as accurate. Just remember it is steel core bullet so make sure you conform to range rules. Happy shooting and keep it on target.

the core is lead the jacket has the steel

This stuff was made to Literary win a war against Russia. I mean look at it crimp primer sealed primer tar sealed case mouth bullet crimped into place, sealed in 20 round boxes then sealed in a battle pack with a canvas handles then sealed in a wood crate. I guess the Austrians took note from the horror stories on the eastern front. (Hopefully these bullets penetrate that thick winter coat! tongue in cheek! )

Half the ranges I use won't allow bi-metal jackets, but the others, (and my sister's farm) don't care.

If it's Berdan primed, I'll use it at the range that considers brass in front of the firing line to be theirs. If it's Boxer primed, I'll happily load it with some FMJs for plinking rounds. So far, I've only put SMKs and A-Maxes through her.

Heads up on cheap Hirt: if you're a Sportsmans guide member, today the 240 Hirt packs are $112.59 with free shipping, if you use code SK1949.

Eagle7840 - hook me up with some of that 1980! Just ordered 2 packs.

Thanks from MeatyMac

Three packs from The Sportsmans Guide was dropped (literally) onto my porch today.

They are dated 1980, so that definitely works well for me.

Hey Grizz, if you open yours would you take a pic of it so I can see what's in my crate. I'm not planning on opening mine.

Yes, it really is that clean.

Had you handed it to me and said it was made yesterday, I'd have no reason not to believe you.

I'll add a photo including some loose cartridges.

The plastic bags are hardly durable, but they'd do very well in a USGI ammo can with some desiccant.

The ammo itself appears as new as new can get. I was going to take a close up photo of the cartridges, but figured you know what new 7.62 NATO ammo looks like. I also confirmed that the primers are sealed and staked, the mouths are sealed, and the shoulders/necks are annealed.

Thanks from mic52, JustinB60 and Wasted ammo
