Nosler 168 cc purchase

Well, I finally quit putting off a purchase of these replacement stock bullets.
Nosler has had these on sale for awhile. They were getting down on inventory again, so I bit the bullet ( pun intended ). Purchased 3k to supplement my weak hoard of this weight class.

Next is adding 3 jugs of powder so that I can load them without breaking into my IMR4064 stash for my 175 pills.

Good bullets. Cabelas or shooters pro shop or whatever has them for .17-.20/ea shipped once in a while.

For the last several years I have been using 41 grains of H4895. I am down to 2 jugs. I also have a back up load that uses Ramshot TAC

I bought some of these as well for use in my bolt-action precision loads. So far so good using LC cases & 44.2 grains of W748, getting around 2680 FPS for use with a Nikon BDC calibrated of that. Warning! : Don't use this load in your autoloader!

Now on Ramshot TAC, I didn't have a very good experience with that powder for some reason in loads for my M1A/Garand, FPS & perceived recoil were ALL OVER the place with deviations of almost 100 FPS, I can pull out my string data on TAC if the discussion goes further, but, when I changed back over to IMR4895 or W748 with the same components it settled down to +/- 15 FPS deviation. I thought something was really off with Ramshot TAC and stopped using it.

Any thoughts?

I also had troubles with the Tac load. It was accurate enough for 300 meter work, but like you stated the extreme spreads were high. The best performance came with CCI #34. I don't normally use those.

On another point with Ram Shot TAC. It is amazingly accurate and has great numbers when used in my AR platform rifles. That is the big reason that I keep it around. Also it does not hurt the it meters like water through my Dillon 1050

Glad I'm not the only one. I had contacted the powder manufacturer (Western I think) about the extreme spreads I was seeing, and they wouldn't admit anything of the sort, they had a bit of a condescending attitude that it was my components, it was driving me crazy so I stopped using it...

I might go ahead and pick up a couple jugs of IMR 4895 before I run out of my MILSURP 4895 stash. I only have 16# of that old powder left, and I'm reluctant to use it up. Jeff Bartlett says there isn't anymore out there, and It's some really good powder.

Use it for a match load. And try to duplicate with new production. Otherwise it is just wasted sitting there.

Some of the best powder I used was the RG 4895 I got a long time back. Extra short grained 4895 that metered like ball powder and quite accurate to boot.
