Is Federal 308 GMM 168 grains too hot for

I am shooting my M1A Loaded for the first time competively. I was about to buy some GMM but just read that it is too hot for gas guns; I have also read a plethora of posts that it is Top notch match ammo. Is GMM a safe pick?

FGMM 168 is considered the gold standard for M1a/ m14.
Use it to establish your baseline.
Buy it with confidence.

Whomever told you it was too hot was incorrect.

I shoot it all the time. It is the most accurate factory load I have found.

FGMM 168gr & 175gr are great for our M14 type rifles.

You've been reading the wrong info. FGMM is one of the best factory loads you can get for the M1A/M14 platform.

Another is the Federal OTM M1A load, also 168 grs. Its a good shooting load that sells at the CMP for reasonable cost.

If you do not reload, GMM is the best fodder for your M14/M1A.

Thumbs up Not so

Howdy,

This proves that just because it is on the web, it is not necessarily so.

I got some of the first boxes of loaded Federal 168 grain match ammo released.

Since then I have fired well over ten-thousand rounds of this excellent factory (I have not done any reloading in over three decades) ammunition through AR Sales MKIV's, Armscorps and M1A's.

No problem, just a drain on the wallet.

This is the thread I saw that GMM was too hot for gas guns (bottom of thread)

http://m14forum.com/ammunition/89694...s/89694?page=2

Was trying to decide between AE M1A OTH and GMM...I see that from the above posts to my thread that GMM is no danger to gas guns and the thread I read was erroneous. After seeing everyone's response, I will go ahead and order some GMM today.

This is the quote from a thread 7 years ago. It's certainly possible that there was a time that FGGM was loaded to hot but I've shot it through my rifles with no problems. In fact I think they are either using R15 or 4064 for their powder if memory serves right.

That is a very, very wrong information. If it were I, I would kill it before someone else reads it and thinks I had a IQ lower than my shoe size........
