Big Ammo Haul Today

Posed a question earlier on some L2A2 ball ammo, so thought I'd post the results. Ended up picking up a 1000 round case of what looks like Radway Green L2A2, and a 1000 round case of Hirtenberger in the 200 round battle packs. Dates appear to be '85 for the RG, and there's what appears to be a faint '80 date on the side of the Hirt crate. Paid $350 for the RG, $425 for the Hirt. Guy also sold me 1500 rounds of Wolf black box 7.62x39 FMJ for $225. Busted the cash stash a bit, but around 39/round average for 7.62 surp, and 15/round for
7.62x39 was too good to resist.

NOT FOR TROPICAL USE

Do the Brits make ammo or package it in some manner that does not enable it to go anywhere?? What does the packaging look like?

Very nice score! Some say it was loaded for mild climates, but I found this on FAL Files and it makes more sense:

"L2A2 is L2A2 is L2A2. The stuff in wooden crates with 200 round battle packs inside was marked "not for tropical use". It was the packaging that was not for tropical use. Note that it did not say "not for desert use". Someone in sunny old England was bright enough to realize that those light weight wooden crates would not last long in places that get 200 inches of rain per year."

Looks Dangerous! Maybe you should send us some to test fire!

Would not want you to get hirt, I mean hurt.

Thanks from Dougboffl and Wasted ammo

I would have to question that post because all U.S. military ammo is packed in those same "light weight wooden crates." Sounds to me as if someone who has never "been there" conjured up a flimsy explanation. The Brits have a lengthy history of packaging ammo in different packaging materials depending on where it is to be used, but standardized NATO ammo should be able to go anywhere.

Agreed, which is why I think the first sentence, "L2A2 is L2A2 is L2A2" is the relevant part. The ammo doesn't care where it goes, so it has to be some other reason.
