Magazines won't lock in

I have an Armalite M14 with bayonet lug. Bought new long time ago and not fired very much. Magazines won't lock in now but my two M1As no problem. Any suggestions?

Armscorp?
Can you take the trigger housing out of that M14 and post a pic of the front where the latch is, and also post a pic of the rear of the mags where the mag latch plate is, and we'll get a look.

But before you do - are you sure you're rocking them in correctly? It might take a good hard bang on it to make sure they're seated, every manufacturer's receiver is a bit different, tolerances on that one might be different and it will take more effort to insert it, the problem multiplies with different brands of mags. Were you using different mags in that rifle when you first got it?

I exchanged triggers with my M1A and same problem. The op rod spring positioner appeared polished on the tip and that must be the problem. Ordered one from Fulton, wish me luck.

Found the problem

First off, this dummy meant Federal Ordinance M14. I exchanged triggers from one M1A, no fix. Examined the recoil spring position rod and found the tip polished. Most likely the problem and ordered a new one from Fulton. Wish me luck.

Swap out one of the op rod spring guides from the other rifles and see how the mags fit.

Yeah, trigger swap wouldn't do it, you are probably right if it is "shiny" it may be too worn to hold onto the mag properly. Let us know if this was the faulty part.

For the record, one of my saddest days in the Corp was my last month "in Country" when they took away my M14 and gave me the tinker toy to replace it. General Patton never knew the M14!

Take it out of the stock, put the trigger group back in. Then you should be able to see why it isn't locking.
