Hornady .308 Win ELD Match TAP "AR" 168gr....

Ok... does anyone have any additional info on this round ? Specifically the "AR" version of this ammo... not the Regular .308 ELD.

I would assume the tailored powder comment would apply to the M1A's gas system as well.

I can only find very limited info... it is not on the Hornady LEO webpage...

Not sure but the AR version may have just as high or higher powder charge?

Specs for the REGULAR .308 ELD

Bullet: 168 GR. ELD® MATCH

Barrel: 26"

Only 160 fps slower for 8" shorter barrel? Would have expected closer to 200 fps slower with same charge.

I am hoping the powder charge is much more "optimized / suitable" for gas system firearms.

We will see... I ordered some of both types.

The ELD tip is specifically blended for withstanding high supersonic flight. Hornady found at the 800 yard range the bullets were not performing as anticipated, they came to the conclusion that the tips were melting and impacting performance at long range. Didn’t have anything to do with feed.

If you check the Hornady reload data they specify they did Doppler radar testing at 800 yards with the ELD bullets.

It fly’s just a tad better out of my M24, than the 175 Gr Federal GMMM.
At ranges below 600 yards it will likely will not have that much impact on accuracy, unless your rifle likes the slightly heavier bullet. You would not think .3 Gr would make a difference, but in my M24 it is on the order of a couple of inches.

Admittedly it might have more to do with harmonics though…

175 GMM shoots about 1 1/2 “ low and to the right than the 178 Gr ELD-X. The AR ammo likely has a moderate burning powder than the other ammo, specifically for semi auto fed rifles, like CFE 223 or something similar.
