ZQI Ammo Dirtbag

This is more of a rant than anything else.

I've learned that my Loaded eats ZQI ammo with no indigestion, burping, etc. So while plinking/fun target shooting, I've found an affordable ammo to feed my M1a, only $7.64 a box at my local Wal-Mart.

I go to my Wal-Mart to but a few boxes. They had probably 50 boxes on the shelf. I made a comment to the salesman about how many was available. He said, "You came at the right time. I have a customer that knows when we re-stock our shelves and he comes in shortly after and buys every box of ZQI we have on the shelf.". I said, "Oh yeah, you got rid of the 3 box limit.". He says, "Yep, he buys them all and resells them at gun shows for way more money. Pretty sleazy, but nothing we can do about it.".

Of course I think it was sleazy too, but on the other hand, he found a quick way to make a few bucks.

Would I do it ? Nope. I wouldn't feel right doing that to another shooter. Anyone else think the guy is scuzzy or is it just me ?

I remember a thread somewhere that the Walmart guy was buying up the ammo before others could get a chance.

The free market is a great thing, Find a new source and buy in bulk. It might cost you more on the front end but will be cheaper in the end.

My advice ......

Stop shopping at WAL MART! I haven't stepped foot inside a Wal Mart in 2 years, and I don't miss it. They ticked me off when a worker was stashing the ammo before it made it to the shelf and bought it all on his break.

Then there is the 'Rotten eggs and Milk' incident.

You should really buy bulk online and / or support your local gun shop.

I try to support the small guys when I can. I've gotten some good deals on 9mm at Ace Hardware when I was in Phoenix. No such luck around here. $19/box of XM80CL or $300+ (that's the cash price) for a case of 9mm.

I'm pretty much just doing online bulk buying nowadays.

I've been guilty of cleaning out multiple Wally world ammo cases of every box of ZQI they had in the past, but all of mine ended up either on the range or else double bagged in gallon ziploc bags, ten boxes to a bag and stacked in my basement.

However i never knew when the stuff was coming in, I just checked every time I shopped there.

Thanks from speerchucker

Give you 3 guesses where 2 of my LGS were getting their ammo for the longest time?

A) I bought ZQ before Walmart (well in my area)stopped selling it.
B) What I did notice was the first lots I bought shot as well as the usual Winchester or Fed M80.
The last stuff I bought did not do as well.
Either way if your stuff is doing well That is great!
Support your LGS as long as they don't charge 2 times the price of Online stuff .
I like to support a Local guy but not at the expense of paying his rent!
Anyway ,in my case the local Gun Shop(s) or for that matter Gun Shows are way over priced and don't have POOP.
I hope your ZQ is the "Old " stock and shoots great!

I like to support my LGS's like anyone else, but I can tell you from personal experience that a couple of years ago when ammo was scarce here in Central Florida, a local Walmart employee and I got to know each other as I was there every Saturday morning after the ammo delivery came in. There was a 3 box limit, no matter what caliber you bought.

This nice guy told me that he knew a LGS employee who came in before me every Saturday with obviously folks he knew and bought a load of ammo. I really did not believe him until I went to that LGS and saw for myself that they were selling 50 rounds of pistol ammo in styrofoam bases in plastic sandwich bags for the 100 round price that Walmart charged. Obviously, I never bought any ammo from that LGS again.

Then there was another LGS in the area that tried to sell me a used SAI M1A "Loaded" Model, but claimed it was a National Match Model. I am not very bright, but even I could figure out it was not a National Match Model.

Then there was another LGS who stated that they could not order me a SAI M1A Scout model and that if they could it would take a year to get it.

Sorry for the rant, I have learned to judge a LGS not by anything other than how they act towards their customers and how honest their pricing is.

Prepay on the next shipment and sell it all to the guy at a 15% markup.

There was a douchebag gunshop owner at my last base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Anyone from there knows who I'm talking about, although your mileage may vary (say that because there is atleast one other person here from the area)... Long story short, he was buying ammo from Walmart cheap and then selling it for more at his own shop. The guys at Walmart found out and started to sharpie WAL-MART across every box of ammo to stop his shenanigans.

Thanks from Snyper762, nf1e and Horst Apies
