I get it for about $500 from SGammo.
Sam and Lala are great people.
I've known Sam since the late 90s when he was a traveling gun show ammo and magazine seller and I ran the Midwest circuit also. That was before Lala and the kids.

Good deal man. Just looking to buy something worth shooting while I'm gone so i have some food for the 14's when I get home!

As others have said, the 1980 and newer is boxer primed, the older stuff is Berdan primed. Both shoot amazingly clean and are accurate for surplus ammunition;

You can not go wrong with www.Sgammo.com. Do yourself a favor and do research on the web with the different sellers, the prices can vary by as much as $150.00 a case of 960 rounds.

I have shot this out of a .308 Garand and SAI M1A with zero problems.

HTH.
Great, I was using ammoseek.com specifically to find it. I'll definitely be researching the year manufactured now that it has been brought to my attention! Thanks!

I think he was the first place i found it, besides a semi-local gun shop back home. His prices were reasonable as well... its not always about the lowest of all prices.... i hat buying ammo from big stores specifically... try to shop local, small businesses as much as possible even if it means a small premium, otherwise im screwed down the road when they close up... happened to me.

SGAmmo gets 70% of my ammo orders and they always have Hirt in some quantity. They are good people to buy from as well.

There's a sticky on the sight here that shows up-to-date prices for surplus ammo. having said that, I usually buy from SGAmmo.

Pretty much what I'm looking at. Might as well go with them seeing as they have a good reputation from what I hear.

I got this group yesterday out of my Loaded M1A iron sights @100 yards. 1980s Hirt that I bought from PSA earlier in the year. Good stuff.

I ran across a 360 rd pack of '83 at .65/rd at LGS. it followed me home.

upon inspection it looks brand new! Never seen HP with a red primer though.

Has anyone else?

Hirt is good stuff. All mine's come from SGAmmo. Never had a problem out of them, and some stuff not mentioned that might be useful to people in CA (or other oppressed states/regions).

They seem to keep up with some of the regional laws (ie. the ongoing battle in CA, state-wide). They even covered our Veto efforts last year on their front page, which I thought was highly supportive of them, given they are in Oklahoma and most people just laugh at us in CA (believe me, I can understand why).

Additionally, they clarified the ammo rule in CA that many didn't understand, which is that it's not banned (yet) until 2018 (some thought it started a few days ago, at the start of 2017). It is all to keep CA buyin' from them for as long as possible, for sure. However, they seem to appreciate our business, and realize we're behind enemy lines.

Those things go a long way with me. They've earned my respect and my business. I will stick with them (for as long as I'm legally allowed).

Stay safe out there on your deployment, sir, and thank you for your service.
