What is your best ammo?

Wardog had a post asking about accurizing his rifles. In my reply I mentioned that rifles have ammo preferences. That some ammo shoots better than others in different rifles.

What shoots best in yours? Give a barrel length and twist if you know it. I think it would be especially enlightening to new people like myself if those of you who have several, let's face it, most of you have several, posted if you have different shoots best ammo for different rifles. I don't have mine yet but I will work that out and post it.

Well Iīm quite new on this rifles but my Norinco donīt like Norma Match-ammo. It performs real well with Swedish military ammo.

I read in a book about M14:s and it said that the FAL, G3 not is so sensitive about what ammo that is used. The M14, in that test, was WERY sensitive about the choise of ammo.

It was a test done in the 60:s.

That is a great report XXIV Corps. I had seen the Range Report posting header but was unaware of what you are doing being fairly new to the forum. That does help. Hope to hear from more forum members .

My Norinco (All stock) rifle , and my M1A Bush rifle seems to like Lake city the best. I havent had a chance to fire my Socom yet.

I found Lake City to be consistantly reliable and accurate in my SA M-1A NM with 11 - 1 twist . I have used some from 1902, '03, and '04 none of it was Match ammo but still grouped well. AlsoLake City is good quality Boxer primed brass that can be reloaded. Reloading is the best way to find the perfect round for YOUR rifle.

Short version:

You don't want XXIV shooting at you, at any range, with any ammo!

The numbers such as '188-9x' are scores. He put 9 in the x ring, and only dropped 12 points out of 20 shots, with the maximum being 200 (IE 20 rounds, 10 points each).

So the ammo with the highest score is better than that with a lower score.

Bottom line, all rifles are a little different w/ammo.

Thank you Eat Beef, I like your short verson the best. I do enjoy shooting over 800 yard targets. To bad the range I go to now, it's down to only 560 yards.

I shoot 3 different Rifles, a Krieger Heavy 1in10,Douglas Medium 1 in10 and a TRW 1in12 GI, the least accurate Surp Ammo in all three is Port FNM, The most accurate Ammo in all Three is Blackhills Match 168s, the most accurate Ammo for 600yds in the two 1in10s is a Handload I use with 175SMKs, My favorite Surp Ammo in all three Rifles in no particular order are Hirtenberger Boxer primed, Aussie 91,British RG and Spanish SB any Year!
