What was done to these M14 mags?

I recently bought two brw-s1 m14 mags that were modified in a wierd way.

note only 2 rds will fit in after mod was done.

They were only $10ea and there was a ammo crate full of them all modded the same way.

Thanks

Maybe they were modified for hunting or match purposes were two rounds (plus one in the chamber) is all that's legal.

Thanks from GARRARD

Modified for high power matches. Reminds me of the two round enblocs for Garands for such matches.

It is possible they were modifieded to hold a shorter round than a 308 win.

Nope, these are the first 2rds fired for the rapid stages for the NMC, a second mag would hold the last 8rds for 10rds of record in that stage of fire.

Thanks from nf1e and 3Gunnah

After my initial post, I got to thinking and was also wondering if that could be a possibility. Kind of like those things they put in M1s that have been modified or set up for use with 7.62MM.

I wonder if they have been modified for use with smaller ammo what that ammo would be.......243 or .270 Cal. maybe?

Is this modification to improve feeding or something?

270 Win is made on a 30-06 case so it would not fit. 243 would.

Were they all painted?

5+5 is legal but 2+8 is the tradition from the garand days and 2 and 8 is better if you scope your shots during mag changes. Id rather shoot 2 nines before i relized my dope was off then 5 9s

In the NRA matches 5 and 5 is legal, in CMP matches, 2 rounds is still the rule.

8.1.4 Loading and Reloading Rifles
• Slow-Fire Loading. In all slow-fire stages, the rifle will be loaded with
only one cartridge at a time. The rifle must remain pointed downrange
while loading; a rifle may not be loaded while resting on a shooting stool.
• Rapid-Fire Loading. After the command ON THE FIRING LINE
STAND…WITH BOLTS CLOSED ON EMPTY CHAMBERS…LOAD,
competitors with M16/M14 type rifles must stand with actions closed on
empty chambers or must close their rifle actions on empty chambers and
insert a magazine loaded with two rounds. Any competitor with an M1
Garand must place a clip and two rounds in the magazine and close the
bolt on an empty chamber by over-riding the top round in the magazine.
When the targets rise or the command TARGETS is given, competitors
must drop down into position and then cycle the bolt to chamber the first
round. No round may be chambered until the competitor is down in
position. A competitor is considered down in position when the buttocks
are on the ground in sitting or one elbow is on the ground in prone.

Thanks from 3Gunnah and smleenfield
