Just wondering, the boxes said NATO on them. Was the circle cross NATO symbol on head stamp as well? From the experiences I've had with surplus, the cases with the + inside a circle(NATO STAMP) all were good ammo. I haven't tried them all, but at least the ones with the NATO cross on the head stamp was all pretty good stuff FWIW.
It is non corrosive, however, some CBC surplus that was sold around the mid to late 90's was recalled by distributors due to several failures - ie explosions and damaged rifles. I had obtained a 1000 case from a surplus company called Paragon now defunct (i think). After shooting 940 rnds I got a letter from them requesting the remaining ammo be sent back for a refund due to the failures. Sorry I tossed the letter long ago after sending the remaining three 20 rnd boxes back for my 6$ refund.
Unless you can get a hold of a copy of the letter, and confirm its not the ammo you have, I would not shoot the stuff. After my experience, I will not even touch newly made CBC ammo named Magtech.
I purchased 10K rounds years ago. got a letter from the supplier that said send it back. got back 10K rds of Santa Barbera. The supplier paid all shipping costs but hauling the 10K of CBC to UPS was a real PIA. "Rumor" was that the CBC had been sabotaged by loading a random round or two with HE.
found some brass on the range . CBC 12. I guess Brasilian. Had a circled cross also. Broke two decapping pins on the sonofagun. I think it's got that bad kind of primer.
Just wanted to let people know so they don't bust a bunch of pins.
CBC is manufactured in the U.S. now under the Spec.'s of NATO so the headstamp has the NATO logo (+).
