The panic is starting to fizzle....

I went to my local store that I buy ammo from and their shelves are full of Ruger 25rd mags at pre-panic prices. I even bought a BX-25 mag on the spot for $29. Another local store was selling them for $50. She says she has tons of mags in the back. She said they actually got a huge ammo shipment in but it was all gone very quickly and they are limiting purchases to 1 box per customer per day.

I noticed online that AR mags are only now 2x normal cost and remaining in stock. I also noticed that our beloved CMI mags are in stock at various places and pretty much remaining in stock. The only thing that hasn't shown signs of catching up is powder/primer availability and availability of Magpul mags.

Just sharing my observations.

Tony.

Yes, private sector means US, WE. All the retail buyers who shoot in this country.

You can believe what ever you want to. Whatever they tell you if it makes you feel good. What do you think that they are going to tell you, huh? That they have no ammo, haven't been getting any in quantity, and they have no handle on when the hell they will have it again in quantity?

That's why Midway has "no backorder" on 90% of their ammo listings. As I said, Midway is probably one of the biggest wholesale buyers of ammo and they have practically none.

Try to buy some, there isn't any there. A little drip here, a little drab there, -which adds up to nothing.
Uh, Excuse Please...

Apparently you didn't read carefully...THERE ARE AMMO MANUFACTURERS Talking There!

(talk about believing what you want to...)

And here's a reading comprehension test:

*What did HORNADY say?

*What did BLACK HILLS AMMO say?

*What did REMINGTON say?

*What did DILLION say?

I think it is less a catch up in supply and more a lack finances to enable demand.

I will have to admit most everybody that did panic did so with all available money flying out the window. I have seen way too many people on a local forum with trade offers for ammo they just bought and have no use for, also a supply killer. I am sure everyone has seen a brick of 22 shells that folks are trying to sell for $65-$125. I am trying to break in a couple new shooters and the 10c+ a round 22lr is getting old, I like replacing bricks as I use but them that won't happen for awhile.

There are lots of factors but imho a few significant factors are:
1. Mass influx of first time gun owners.(many are purchasing at least 2 guns of different caliber and the feeling the need for up to or over 1k rounds for each. This is fueled by factor 3.)

2. Irregular spending on ammo by 65-70% of gun owners. (Most folks treat their ammo like their lives: paycheck to paycheck, no saving, no future planning, as long as they can shoot something they are fine. When they perceive a change in that pattern they try to beat the change see factor 3.)

3.Both 1&2 are due to industry speculation based on actual government efforts/ideas and a multitude of perceived threats. (perception has always been a dangerous word to me, everyone's is different and it is hard to calm down 10 different perceptions at once.)

I just pray that everyone in our country will take a couple breathes, pick up the Constitution and read it. Then read a couple historical accounts of how whole countries being taken advantage of by a powerful few, followed by another pass at the Constitution. After which everyone on both sides of the 2A debate will see eye to eye and we can move on.

ok my perspective, our local Walmart puts out ammo at 0700, i can only get there on sat and sun, last 2 weeks they have been getting ammo more than last 3 months, i have been able to get 2000 + 22lr in last 2 wks. we are limited to three purchases per 24 hrs.
5.56 at 12.00/20 has been showing up and selling out within 24 hrs, but things look to be improving here

.40 S&W availability

I do not own a pistol in .40 S&W. However, I have noted over the past several months that .40 S&W ammo has been regularly available either at gun shows or Gander Mountain or WalMart. For example, our local Gander Mtn. must have a fifty boxes from various manufacturers on the shelf. In contrast, .45 ACP and 9mm Lugar remains totally unavailable.

Sadly the local Walmarts around here have seemed to bow to the states view on citizens being armed. I can go roughly 25 miles in any direction and only one store stocks ammo, and at 7 a.m. everyday the same two a holes are there buying everything that came in.

Dick's Sports is also pretty useless when it comes to buying anything other than shotgun ammo these days. Heck, they won't even order an M1A for a customer because it's on the "scary looking" gun list. To top it off they only get one delivery of ammo per week so the chances of getting what you want isn't very good.

Couple that with the Ma. not allowing online purchasing means pickings are getting mighty slim around these parts.

Just another reason to leave this dump of a state.

I have been watching the on-line sales and purchasing just enough to have "range stock" I like to keep 500rds. Currently most orders are at $1.00 a round plus shipping. I was purchasing at my LGS for about the same price and did not have to pay for shipping but he can't even get any now. I hope this ends soon as it will put the little guys out of business.

Within 30 miles of my home are 7 Walmarts, 2 Academys, a , a Bass Pro Shop and numerous lgs..and none can keep ammo or "black" guns in stock. All say the same: stuff comes in, and people are waiting with cash in hand to buy. Most stores have daily limits on ammo, but not that much is arriving. 22lr, .223, .308, .38/.357, 9mm, .40 & .45 is unavailable if you're not there when they stock up. 12 gauge buck and slug as well as .410 is still hard to find. Any .223 hi-cap rifle and mags are gone within 30 minutes they're put on display. Tactical shotguns, bye-bye. 10-22s can't be found. Even high-end bolt action (sniper) rifles are gone.
We (my GF, her daughter and myself) went to the range this week-end to shoot our ARs and I brought an 840 round ammo can of ammo. I had 10+ people ask if I had more ammo and was I willing to sell some. Offers of $6-700 a can were given and they even wanted to buy 140 rnd bandoliers for $140+ each!
People want ammo and they are willing to put out big bucks for it. They're afraid that the government still plans to take their guns and ammo away, or put severe restrictions on the ownership, storage and usage of it. Buy and stock up as much as you can afford seems to be the words of today.

I got lucky

Went to wally world for a few things and decided to stop by the ammo section. Just as I got there the clerk was stocking up the shelf :) There was 1 guy waiting for 2 friends to arrive because of the 3 box limit. I got the 1 and only box of .45, 380, and 223 fmj and I had my gf buy 3 bulk boxes of 22. By the time I checked out all the bulk 22 was gone again and the shelves only had 270, 30-06, 20 gauge, and a few random boxes of the polymer tipped remington.

I agree with the OP - it's starting to fizzle.

That doesn't mean it's over, it means the worst has passed, and some of us - maybe not all - are seeing signs of improvement.

In the last couple of weeks I've seen .223/5.56 on the shelves in two different stores (not part of the same chain) that before were limiting sales to 2 or 3 boxes per caliber, if they had it at all.

Walked into my Wal-Mart the other night and there was a bunch of bulk 22LR still on the shelf and no customers in sight. The clerk said they had loaded up the shelves that morning and it had been selling pretty steadily throughout the day. I bought 775 rounds for 4 cents a round just like in the old days.
