MAYBE? the panic craze is starting to wane?

I went to Scheel's today and there were ten, count em', ten, grey phosphate 30 round M16 mags in the display case for $29.99 each. I was told they had been there for about three days so far.

Right next to them was 6 M14 mags going to $79.99 each !!! Evidently the panic is starting to wane because no one was in a feeding frenzy. The $80 price tag says some are still trying to cash in on the craze, but no one seems to be buying.

I did not have the heart to tell the salesman I picked up 11 M14 mags at a pawn shop two days ago for $34.95 each.

At Cabala's they also had a whole bunch, maybe 200 plastic molded M16 mags for $30 also. A bit high for a plastic thermelt, but they sure had a lot of them.

SO....is all of the foolishness of the past two months finally starting to slacken up a bit?

How is it in other parts of the country?

It is starting to wane, by summer things will be almost back to normal. Those who were out to make a nut by selling their wares for 3 to 4 times what it was worth got theirs and the rest of us weathered the storm confident that this too would pass.

I'm laughing my butt off at the guys who paid $3k for a $900 AR or $1 per round for 223 ammo. I hope it was worth it.

I disagree. I travel a fair bit and check out the big stores everywhere in between my travels. Scheels here in Reno had the same AR mags. Gone in quick order. I've seen these shops getting more stuff in stock, but it still moves. Shelves are still empty most places/states I've seen.

Reloading supplies...forget it.

Anything tactical and has a trigger...forget it.

I posted on another thread some stores don't even put new shipments on shelves. They roll in a pallet or carts and let people quickly pick through it. In CO Springs Sportsman's Warehouse, they have maze type lines just to get to the gun counter...

Hold on there ba ba boy...

Not sure it's over, on the wane hopfully! Local web site that doesn't sell guns anymore but lets ammo slide by. A guy on the site is asking $25 a box for .308 steel case. Another had 500 so called factory .223 reloads, asking $700! Another local site has tons of those $800 AR's for $1500 to $1800. Most are brands I've never heard of until I did a search and found out they been making Ar's for over 3 years! Wishing I had of bought that Ruger SR556 With 3 mags sights and a case when it was $1199... oh well 2K aint bad if you can find one. lol USNA

OK...so putting a % on it.

The foolishness is starting to wane about 30% in SOME places but not all.

Does anyone notice the price gougers are ASKING outrageous prices, but they are NOT GETTING THEM.

I still see the $129.00 grey phosphate magazine on Cheaper Than Dirt. The SAME EXACT ONEs I saw today for $29.99. $100 difference. I really do not think anyone is actually paying those prices.

Are they? Does anyone know anyone that will admit to paying over a buck a round for 223 or close to 2 bucks for 308? Not me.

The outlying areas seem to be recovering somewhat. The closer to the big metro area we get, the worse the frenzy seems to be. After a long road trip last weekend, I'd guess that some restocking will be seen farily soon all over. Prices have definitely moderated in the retail locations.

Just hope the next "Grand Massacre" attempt is thwarted by prompt return fire!

The hysteria is not over... as is typical with Amerikans... they've spent all their money and/or maxed out their credit cards. Give it a few months (to allow some of them to paydown their debt) and the hysteria driven consumerism will return in full force.

I thought it was a good sign that Midway was able to keep 20rd CMI mags in stock for two or three days last week. The frenzy isn't over but I think we're starting to see some daylight. I still haven't been able to find any 168-175gr .308 ammo for testing, at least not for anything approaching a reasonable price.

First thing I'm gonna do when this is all over is squirrel away four or five of those Fed. 525rd bricks of .22lr. Checked my ammo can last night, found more .45 than I thought I had but no .38spl fmj. I though I had at least one 100rd box of WWB in there.

I didn't see any overpriced ammo, mags, or "assault weapons" change hands at the last gun show I attended. There also seemed to be plenty of all of those at the some, I would say even more than is normally on hand.

I have a friend of mine that wanted to get an AR after the crazy started... he asked what the best one to get would be, I told him just get a Colt and be done with it. So he ran into the gun show and bought the first Colt he found... $2500! I'm assuming it's a LE6920 or something similar.

He really wanted a left-handed AR... I told him we could get a left-handed upper and BCG and just swap the parts. He ran out 2 weeks ago and bought a LH RRA AR.... for $2500.

*sigh*

Went to the Mesquite, TX gunshow this past weekend, they had piles of MagPul 30rd'ers for $30-40, but I didn't see too many of them moving.

Alternately, reloading components were NON EXISTENT at the gun show. There are usually 2 or 3 big vendors at every Dallas area gun show... they weren't there. One of the big cast bullet vendors was there... out of product after 3 hours. He was handing out cards.

I went to the popular indoor range yesterday to try out my new Kahr pistol, I was ASTOUNDED at the lack of firearms to sell. The 30' wall normally festooned with rifles... was EMPTY... as were about half of the display cases. The cases that had guns had 5 or 10, instead of the 30 it would normally hold. ...and their reloading section was gone, replaced with other retail products.

Very sad and depressing...

We have definitly passed the climax so to say. Give it some time still price gougers and idiots out there and its going to take time for businesses to restock, manufactures to catch up, etc. Also we need to see if the government does actually push something retarded through. But things are definitely SLOWLY dieing down.

went to the local gun shop and picked up a box of Q3130 for 27.99, up from the prefrenzy price 0f 19.99, but cheaper than their .308 ammo. Picked up one box, they had several, I think people passed it bybecause it said 7.62x51.
Other local box sportinggoods store wanted 49.99 for remmington core loct.
Drove an 1 1/2 hours to pick up two 1 lbs cans of IMR 3064, a few other odds and ends.
Small pistol primers are non exsistant around here, sold 9mm brass, but they buckets of .40 cal. I guess it depends on what you want.

sorry but this "national conversation" was totally one sided. The committee can do whatever they want, the house aint gonna pass.

keep contacting those congressmen!

they need to just ban triggers, TEH VERY THING THAT MAKES A GUN DANGEROUS!

You know what, I don't trust Boehner to stand up for anything, let alone with the amount of heat the Left is going to bring to bear on this issue. He has already shown he doesn't have a spine. And don't think there isn't some wheeling-dealing going on between this issue and the budget.

I've been to a few places to include Cabelas and there is not a single .223, .308 or 45ACP on the shelves.

I've seen 30-06, .270, 44 mag, 45LC, 45-70, and 7mm mag. The rest of the shelves are collecting dust.

Not much for firearms either

I have ordered bullets and powder from Powder Valley to reload my 30-06 for elk season, but of course they are backlogged for months.
So, I've been digging around for some 30-06 at a decent price, and not the cheap Big Bear junk. I'm not putting that crap in my Weatherby.

But today, I actually bought 5 boxes of Hornady 30-06 180gr SST's from Midway USA.

They had them for $26.99/box.

Not bad for the custom rounds, considering the frenzy is still pretty high.

I think the buy at any price is starting to wane. But ammo offered at pre-craze prices is getting bought rapidly. I'm slowly adding to my .22 stash, but won't but any 7.62 unless it's a normal price. Saw some Q3130 today for 16.95/bx online, but passed.

Wife is getting suspicious of the boxes in the arms room....

Things are looking better here in Cincinnati. Today at the LGS I saw multiple ARs (223 and 308), a milled receiver Arsenal AK, several 338LM Savage bolt guns, dozens of P-Mags (Gen 2 and Gen3), cases of green tip 5.56, stacks of 16" AR uppers, Glocks/SIGs/1911s out the ying yang. Et cetera, et cetera.

I have been routinely picking up 9mm and 45 ACP WWB at my local Wal-Mart for nearly pre-derp prices.

The truly crazed folks are either waking up or running out of funds. A lot of high priced stuff out there, but a lot was just sitting at the gun show his weekend. I had wanted to try out a FAL type rifle but I waited too late it seems. Saw a lot of cruddy looking kit guns that people wanted 1K plus for and it went up steeply from there. I just don't know enough about them to test the waters in this inflated market.

Finding H4895 seems to be near impossible at present. Like many have stated, I have been laying off the firing line until round replacements are available. When the powder levels catch up a jug or 2 will work.
