CMP Surplus 5.56 Ammo In The Estore

The CMP just this afternoon announced a quantity of about 900 cans of LC 5.56mm ammo for sale through the online estore. This is the same SAW machinegun belted ammo that has previously been available only at the North and South stores, packed one 200-round belt per plastic SAW magazine at $70 each, plus $9 shipping. The belts are made up of four M855 green tipped penetrator rounds to one M856 tracer.
If it goes as fast as the surplus .22LR that the CMP offered earlier in the year, it will probably sell out in a day or so.

Does anyone know if they still have it in stock at the South store? Planning to go this weekend and want to pick up a can.

Someone on the CMP forum said there was still a bunch of it at the North and South stores. They generally don't list stuff online unless there is a lot available, but they only posted 900 available through the estore.

Well, it lasted about 12 hours, and now it's gone from the estore. Looks like it's still available at the CMP stores, though.

Did it ever cross your mind that it may have lasted longer had the announcement not been made on websites beyond the CMP?

I simply cannot fathom people shouting things like this from the rooftops, and in the same breath commenting on how fast it is gone.

Some people are willing to share in a good thing. You know, team spirt and all that.
Got mine. The faster stuff like this sells, the better. Hopefully more will be available soon. Gotta make room for the good stuff.

70 bucks for 200 rounds was not a bad price it would not have lasted long even if it was not shouted out over the internet.

You have to think, the people that grabbed it up have most likely purchased from CMP before. Just saying.

As Orest Michaels posted on the CMP Forum, with 300,000 active customers there, a mere 1,000 things available don't last very long. Not all of the CMP customers are interested in .223 or AR related stuff, and most don't regularly check the estore looking for new listings, so it's just a courtesy to spread the word when something new shows up.
There are still cases and cases of surplus .410 shotgun ammo available online, but there doesn't seem to be as much of a demand for it as there was for the surplus Remington .22LR and the Lake City 5.56.

Thanks from nf1e@snet.net

Didn't seem like a great price being there were only 160 M855 rounds with the rest tracers. Setting the tracers aside (no were for me to shot those) the cost was slightly higher then what I have been paying. Regardless, nice novelty item being linked and going towards a good cause, so of course I picked up one. Was thinking two but scratched my head on what I would be doing with it besides adding to the pile, so stuck with the one.

Last I heard on a machine gun forum I frequent, that the owner of the one and only transferable M249 SAW was trying to get more, but the CMP set a limit of 10 cans. Or trust me, he would have purchased it all in a second.

Me? I just want someone to sell me a couple of the empty drums at a reasonable price. I have a couple ALICE SAW pouches these go in.
