I can't answer your question, but I am getting Ruger mags for under $30 each. Is that too much?

mags

Stick with factory mags, then there will be no question. You want your rifle to go bang EVERY time!

For those of you out there that think any thing but factory Ruger mags dont work you need to learn how to take apart a mag.

I have 4 Pro-Mag, 2 Thermold, and 2 Ruger mags, out of all those the two Ruger mags are the ones I get the most problems out of. Learning how to take apart mags can help you alot since aparently Mini 14s cant function well with out factory mags, which I think is total BS, but oh well.

Any mag will work if you dont mind sitting down and working for 5mins.

Back to the OP's question yes the Theromold are great mags and if I hade money to blow I would go for more of them, my only complaint is they are plastic but as long as they work I could care less about what they are made out of, but other than that they work great and are very tough mags.

Good Shooting.

What kind of work are you talking about? I have some aftermarket mags that I would like to improve.

Awards Showcase

I had some cheap Chinese mags and fired over 1,000 rounds out of my Mini-14 before I sold it, never any kind of malfunction. I like the Thermold mags too, I've never had problems.

Now that you have insinuated that the rest of us are not very smart why don't you tell us what your talking about. I bought a Mini that has 5 cheap mags and none of them work good. I do know how to take mags apart but I don't know how to make junk work.

Sorry if I came off insulting I just get tired of people complaining about things that are very simple fixes.

Here it is in detial:

After market Mini mags some times have spring problems that cause inconsistan feeding so by using the springs form AR15 mags you can get around this miner problem. Or you can strech the springs a little bit, which basiclly retenchens them.

Also the Feed lips can be deformed and or bent down. In the case that they are bent you can just bend them with a pair of pliers. If they are deformed or not cut properly, it is simple to just file down the front edges till they dont grind on the lower face of the bolt.

Another problem could be the followers in the mags being bad. I usually do this the most, fileing down the rough edges around the followers make them glide better. Also you can add a small layer of aluminm and epoxy it there to help stiffin the follower so it dosent flex. (adding the aluminum may cause the mag to hod 1 less round)

This is all the things you could do to make your mags work better, so far ive only hade to fix 15-17 mags for friends of mine and they are usually the very wierd off brands from china. I havent really hade any problems with the name brand mags like Theromold, Promag, Tapco, or John Mason.

Like I said I wasnt trying to insult I was kinda agervated to no end last night.

Good Shooting.
