I have a few pounds of H335 also. It seems to be in the right burning range, but the #7 doesn't list it. Maybe someone here will give up their load for the M1A .

Most of yhe medium burn powders work. Bur I think H 380 is to slow a burning powder for the gas guns.

No it's not. The powder that was used and still used for the Garand are slower burning powder and they don't work well with the M14/M1A. I have the port pressure charts here and they came from Springfield (not Genesco nor Devine).

A good powder these days for the M14 type rifle is 4064. It's used in Brown Box loaded for spec ops and the DMR's. The Brown Box also uses the old 173 grain M118 bullet, but it's not really the same since the production equipment is old and badly worn. Wish I could post more, but it would seem the help I post when I get the time aren't appreciated.

I could have easily posted the specific port problems/pressures.

PS, reloader 15 is also used for Brown Box, but it's not as clean burning as 4064. Personally I had a load with a different IMR powder before IMR changed the production of it and since then its pressure curves are different and more volatile.

Both H4894 and IMR 4895 are not the greatest choices for the M14 type. I loaded thousands of rounds with IMR4895, but that was before IMR changed the production of it (the chemical make up). If you need to, start way low and watch the primers for pressure signs (flattened primers).

I'm really liking it in a 22 inch SAK barrel with 168SMK & LC brass.

IMR4895 has worked very well also.

Never had a need to try anything else.

I'd still be all over IMR4895 but the sealed can of IMR4064 was only $50.00 and the results have surprised me.

Ole Silver
Stick with 4064, it's safer and used for Brown Box.

The 8th edition of Hornady's reloading manual has a service rifle section for the M1A, they list three bullets weights and all three have loads using H 4895 so yes, it is safe to use.

H4895 is in the same burn rate range as IMR4895 and IMR 4064, there is very little difference between the three and all work well in the M1A. Of the three H 4895 is slightly faster than the other two but it is supposed to be less temperature sensitive than the older IMR powders.
