...That made it all seem fine.
I was stationed at Anderson AFB, Guam during my first overseas assignment; early 1971. One of my off-duty assignments was fixing parts that were out of service for little stuff when replacements were unavailable.
One of my scrounging trips was to 'borrow' a tap and die set from another shop. This was during the middle of an ORI so I felt a bit conspicuous when I entered the shop and started poking around.
I was approached by a captain from the inspection team...thought I was caught. He asked me to 'look at that and tell me if you see anything unusual', pointing to the standard that held the unit tags for all the organizations with offices upstairs. There must have been 15 or so little 10"x3" plastic tags hanging from the standard, all connected with ring clips.
Most I recognized...2nd FMS, 2nd OMS...about four down was one that appeared similar to the SAC glove but the unit acronym was 'H.M.F.I.C'. That's 'Head Mother ****er In Charge' for you younger folks.
The captain said whoever did that deserved some credit for originality and asked if he should have it removed. I told him that the tag was probably hung there right after WWII and it would be a shame to mess with history. He agreed...no one else in the IG party noticed.
It may still be there.
