| 8th Army Air Corps info wanted
Lost my father this past March at age 90. He was a WWII vet with the 8th Army Air Corps. Where can I find Cpl. stripes from that era? And a 490BG patch. He was stationed at Eye Air Base in the UK during D-day.
I want to put them with the flag I was given the day we buried him. Thanks in advance for any help in finding them.

There is a sort of shrine to the 8th Air Force at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson. If you have never been there, you should go there. It is really something to see.
There are photos of (all?) the air crews and wall maps of all the missions and display cases full of all kinds of memorabilia and a beautiful polished B17 sitting in the middle of it. Holy ground.
Lots of old geezers reminiscing, when I was there a decade ago.

Thanks for that information. My grandson and I will be taking a road in early June and we will be passing that area on our way to Texas. We will stop there for sure. Again thanks.

| 8th AF Museum
There is a great "Mighty Eighth" Air Force museum in Savannah, GA.
Found out many a heroic story while touring the facility.
Their staff may be able to help you with your search.

My grandfather was in the 379th BG out of Kimbolton, England.
He passed away a few years ago, but he made annual trips to meetings for the 8th.
A lot of these meetings have been taken over by the descendants of the veterans. I'm sure you could find out more information from a local chapter, here's a start. I'm positive one of these resources would know where to get what you're looking for.
Best,
RD8

You can also check with the 8th AF Museum at Barksdale AFB, LA. 8AF Headquarters is located there. I appreciate your grandfather's service.
rd8,
I flew B-52s in the 379th Bomb Wing at Wurtsmith AFB, MI. We proudly carried the Triangle K on our tails! Got to meet some 379th BG personnel - a real treat. I also appreciate your grandfather's service. |

If I am remembering correctly, the 8th AF had the highest casualty rate of any comparable sized unit, any branch of service, in WWII!

Tahoe | As far as I know they were trying to assemble a B17 there also. If anyone goes to this museum, look for my father, Henry Ray Anthony, on the Wall of Honor.

Sounds like you may already have some good leads. You can also check out this forum not only for WW2 items but also if you want to do some more research on him. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ |
