Question for you Air Force guys

Hey all, was wondering if any of you were involved in, or knew anyone involved in, some of these during the Cold War:

F-15 2 birds with one stone

WeI have a pilot ( Claw ) who shot two MIGs with one missile who is presently the commander of the 123rd FW in Portland Oregon. This is not on the list you referenced to. Happened during the Bosnian conflict.

I want to say I read an article in Air Force Magazine on this very subject a bunch of years ago - maybe 5 or 6? You might try a search on their web site.

Was launched out of Kadena Sept 3 1983 on Rescue Alert for the Missing KAL 007. The following events still keep all of us on the crew of Air Force Rescue 95822, an HC-130N wondering just what really was happening. If there are any USN E-2 Hawkeye crews around, Thanks! "Liberty" saved us from being a shootdown ourselves on day 2.

The old man was a PJ back in the day, when he's in story telling mode I'll ask him.

My father was stationed in Japan in 1946 with the AAF, and knew some of the veteran bomber pilots form the A-26 wing, who where out flying to get there flight pay, when one of them got jumped by a pair of soviet fighter, his gunners shot both of them down. He was told to keep it hush-hush. Told me the old captain was "mad as hell, them S.O.B.'s shot at him".Said he never heard anything else about, apperantly it was not a uncommon incident.

There was a lot of stuff happened in the 1980's, we were debriefed, then never heard about again. Have never seen any other reports on it. I still find it amazing the number of flights I was on back then that according to my official flight records never happened, I guess it was just a figment of my illusion. We even sent on entire unit to do joint exercises with the Navy that included real USSR ships and aircraft, talk about well trained individuals in the agressor roll - they realy knew their Soviet tatics! They also had a lot of photographers, at least 100 per ship. They must have though our planes were really cool because they took lots of pictures.

The KC-135 was not considered a "Combat Aircraft" so I was never really in those situations because that would have been against our rules of engagement. I would have taken more photos, but they took all of those during debreif! I never understood why we would sanitise our flight suits before we landed (but there is no record we were there) to not offend the locals - there were big letters on the side of the plane that said UNITED STATES AIR FORCE - I think they knew who were were and it is really hard to miss a plane that big, but if we were never really there....

Those were the days! That was the best part of the Cold War, you can get a way with almost anything when you were never offically there!

One of the things we used to say in SAC was;
"Those that say don't know. Those that know don't say."

Nov of 73 through Nov of 74, was in Cape Lisburne, Alaska, a RADAR site on the NW most tip of Alaska where the Bering Straight meets the Arctic Ocean. \It was a remote assignment monitoring the air space and relaying data trough series of Radio Relay sites all the way to NORAD. I was a tech maintaining the FPS-93A Search RADAR.

We had some traffic through the Internationa Date Line.
