I think there is some confusion here. This did not happen to me. I am not a pilot. I presented a story I found that was written in the first person, but I thought I had made that clear. My apologies for the confusion.

I found the original on the net. The author was Brian Shul, Retired SR-71 Pilot.

They are wicked aircraft, even on a pedestal.. I had the fortune to meet Kelly Johnson in the late 80's and hear him speak.. That was a trip.. Cheers.. Ron

I never saw a Blackbird but I remember the Southern Rose Exercises in our German Nike Hercules battery between 1980 and 1986, when I was a BCO. The only thing I saw from that bird was the jumping of the blip with every 10 seconds sweep on the radar screen. I was realy good at that time and made it easy for my crew to acquire that target at 200 kyds. But our analog computer set the predicted kill point way out of the effective range of our mach3 missile on the other side of the plotting board.

SR 71 On Static Display at Lackland AFB in SAT

There is an SR 71 on static display at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. We were visiting our son for Basic graduation so I am not sure how public access works. There were several planes on display so I assume it is open to the public.

152 knots? Big deal! I've gone slower than that, a LOT slower!
