| Any Air Force Vets here?
I guess I will be the first to ask, any USAF Vets here I was at Williams AFB AZ for first hitch as an Aircraft Mechanic on T38's,T37 and F5 components in AR, the base is now an Airport due to the Graham Ruddman act..
the Next Hitch I served as an Aircraft Mech on OV10 and O2's primarily OV's in phase dock ...my squadron was closed due to the Graham Ruddman act...
after I got out they changed the way they dressed just to make me feel like an old USAF vet ...
anyhoo anyother safety wire scarred Flyboys out there?

We have a few in the group.
Minutenman III ICBM crew member 400SMS FE Warren, then the conehead emergency actions controller assigned to the 5th BMW, really great job. next Duty Officer for the Mighty 8th Air Force we had a lot of fun with President Regan at the stick, finally the best duty station for a outdoors man Eielson AFB, Alaska. But then the damn Soviets couldn't hold the union togather and I got RIFFed out in 1993.

Hello,
I flew the T-37, T-38/F-5 until an arm injury grounded me. Could not use my arm with any strength for almost a year.
After that, I became an Air Base Combat Engineer.
I was in the Air Force from January 1986 to December 1992.

Two stints for me,
INS / Radar / Radio Repair, B-52's and KC-135's
84 -85 - K. I Sawyer AFB, lots of snow, but a good base.
86 - 91 Castle AFB, Aircrew training base.
92 Travis AFB for reserves. ( I could not hack the reserves / MAC, too much sitting around after working a training base like Castle. Nobody can break aircraft like students. )
Voluntered for Desert Shield. Ended up at Wake Island. Whoo hoo.
I really enjoyed the Air Force, one of my better choices as a young man who did not know what to do. I had some excellent mentors / NCO's. I dont regret a single day.
There is no doubt that it helped my civilian career later in life.
Best regards,
HD

| Cool Cool to see Willie guys here, I arrived there May of 81, was Kilo Flt then Lima then A/R there until Feb 85 the I went to the Patrick AFB ...man not much to do on base at Willie that was for sure, for us poor Airman it was Cosmos Pizza across the street from the Gate or we car pooled to the Rio Salada ..my most unforgettable memory will always be when Major Bidwell crashed into the Superstition mountains....Major Bidwell was the first launch I ever did and he was a good man! |

I did summer camps at Sheppard AFB training to fly A1 Skyraiders, then the AF scrapped the program, and I started losing my hearing, so I wound up in the Marines. I sincerely hope this doesn't hurt any AF or MC types. Each is a great service, and I am proud of both.

Been around the AF block a time or 2, retired in 2000. Most of the time the AF kept me south of the Mason Dixon line. Had a great time and don't regret it. Went in thinking I would stay for 4 and get a real job, well 24.5 later I retired. I was just lucky I guess.

Willie was my first duty assignment as well. 82nd OMS, Hotel Flight working T-38s '78-'80. Managed to sneak away to the March AFB ACE Det during the summer of '79. Perhaps the best TDY ever!
RAF Upper Heyford UK and F-111Es '80-'83.
Cross trained to Flight Engineer after that:
C-130Es, 50th TAS Little Rock AFB '83-'86
WR-ALC Flight Test, Robins AFB, '86-'89
AC-130Hs, Hurlburt Field, '89-'94
MC-130Hs, Kirtland AFB, '94-'96
NATO AWACS, Geilenkirchen Germany, '96-'00
HQ ACC, Langley AFB, '00-'03
Had a great ride and decided to call it quits just shy of 25 years.
Then I thought it would be cool to be a commercial pilot when I retired (Ha!). I've been furloughed for over a year and am back to turning wrenches instead of flyin' em just to keep earning a paycheck.
