This is heart breaking and disgraceful. Caskets are not jokes, even if they are empty.

I was a crew chief in the United States Air Force for four years. And I have to say, this photo does not surprize me in the least. There are air bases in the states that are VERY mentally detatched from the rest of the military and the war. Im sure that this photo was meant to be a funny inside joke. (I cant imagine why its funny). There is a complete lack of discipline and respect in the Air Force depending on where you serve. That being said, my CO and any other ones that I knew would have never let this crap happen and would have severely disciplined whomever was involved.

Seems to be part of a pattern. There were multiple incidents at Minot a few years back with nukes, Dover, this, and the AF has to get contractors to administer their physical fitness tests. There seems to be an endemic lack of integrity and responsibility in the AF right now.

Sad, especially since tech sergeants and staff sergeants are willingly taking part in this woeful display of bad judgment and immaturity. The crossed arms thing makes me think this is some kind of gang related display. You know, I see the military every day at work and it pains me to see such a constant leadership vacuum in existence in today’s military, sad but true..… I could speak volumes more let me tell you…
Just another by product and “perk” of the FB contaminated younger generation….

It went as far as not re-enlisting and sometimes discharging airmen who could not pass tests. Not sure how it is now.

I can't tell you how angry I've been at the Air Force. I have/had a couple good friends who joined the AF and they say it's like college.. too easy. I'm sorry but I don't consider the AF very "military" at all. I would transfer to the Coast Guard before I went to the Air Force.. Sorry if I offend any users who are/were AF or have family that is, but they have offended our fallen and discgraced the DoD.

I tried enlisting in the AF for prior service. Didn't get in due to being slightly overweight. It's good to see quality recruits make the cut here. |

I was in the USAF from 1968 to 1990. We had our problems, as all branches, in the early '70s after the Viet Nam drawdown. I did some pretty stupid things when I was a young enlisted guy, but there were no cameras back then, and no internet. No doubt the water balloon I tossed at our First Sergeant would have made the news if there had been. (he handles the incident "privately"... shall we say...?) I learned a few lessons and actually was accepted into Officer Training and retired at a ripe old age and rank. :)
This pic is disgusting, but nothing new. Watch some of the YouTube vids of soldiers in the sandbox doing stupid things. GIs are going to do those kinds of things.
The problem is, these things take on a life of their own, and since the vast majority of viewers have no military experience, they tend to judge these things more harshly than otherwise.
I'd say let's get over it, and hopefully the kids will have learned a lesson.
As for the NCOs, though, that's a different story. They really need to be disciplined... "privately". :)
JWB
PS... the USAF is just as "military" as any other branch. I was a Special Operations Liaison Officer in the Middle East for some time... I could eat snakes (and Scorpions) with the best of them... :) But that was long ago, and I've learned a few lessons since then... I just don't like snakes! HA!

Attach those turds to a USMC infantry platoon for a tour. They will see how funny it is then, if they make it back or if our commanders had any balls left they would have considered these guys the latest volunteers to search for IEDs.

Just take a look at the reject losers in the picture and you will understand why the incident occurred. A complete lack of discipline and a break down in the chain of command.

Served USAF 1980 to 1991...c130's...AF... was PC and heading to hell back then. We have a group of self serving "Gangsters" managing by PC officers and Senior Enlisted to a large part...still a few Airman doing a outstanding job...few.. A example of this is the number of "Honorable" discharges Types that are afforded today. When I was in the Navy 1974 to 1980 there were 4 ..HD, HD medical, Dishonorable, BDC. Today there are over 12 DC types...WAY too PC. Hummmm... Wonder how China's officers would deal with each Airman in the enclosed Pic.

I retired from the Air Force…served from ’87 to 2007. I was ready to retire in 2002. When the “Quality AF” era hit, the Air Force went downhill in a hurry. The year I retired, it was a political man’s military. As an NCO, you couldn’t discipline a subordinate without fear of reprisal from the higher ups. Once the subordinate was counseled, he/she could go straight to the Shirt or Commander and bitch. Then in the NCO would go for a “Counseling Session”. If that Airman was dubbed a “Golden Child” or any other form of suck up to the higher ups, the more untouchable they were. They could go around and call NCO’s by first name, or not complete tasks that were assigned and get a free pass. It’s truly a sad, sad pitiful display of Military image that I was once proud to be a part of.
This picture sad enough, shows how far the Air Force has fallen downhill in its lack of military bearing. The NCO’s in this picture should have been the first ones to step up and say…HELL NO! This is way beyond a line of morality. Instead, they follow the same line of today’s Air Force Mentality.
I still believe deep in my heart that somewhere out there, in today’s Air Force, there are some Airmen that have good heads on their shoulders that will turn this ship around. Unfortunately, from the people I still have ties with that are still serving, complain that it’s getting worse and worse….
Heads will roll, I doubt that outside of the unit involved, no one else will learn from it…or even care. And that’s sad. To me, it’s total disrespect to the men and women who have sacrificed in all branches. Whether it’s an inside joke or not, while in uniform you must realize the image you portray. Being retired A.F. I feel that I must apologize for these idiots to anyone that may have been offended.
