Exellent shoot today!

Trying a couple of new to me powders, W846 which I have recently been tinkering with and now AA 2460, totally new to me. Wanting the better of these two platforms to try that in I shot a box of test loads in my LRB med bbl. rifle and did a sort of bake off in the RockOla with the 846. All shooting except sighters used 168 SMK bullets. Started with the LRB and 2460. Fired one sighter with ball, landed about a half inch from POA. Then stacked 4 on top of it with 38 grs of 2460. Can you say surprised and tickled? Fearing a fluke group, tried the next load a half grain up. Same placement, 4 in a half inch again! 39 grs did less spectacular only putting 3 of 4 into about .75 and one low for a 1.25" group. 40 grs netted about an inch, and 40.5 put its 4 into about .6" with 3 in one hole. Now this is pretty dang good grouping from any rifle, let alone a gas gun. All fed from the mag. The Rock Ola JRA rifle did some good work today also, same bullet, W846. Meant today to decide on a primer, WLR or CCI250. Both have shown promise but last time out it appeared that the CCI mag primers were boosting pressures up a tad, but that was not as evident today for whatever reason. Best overall today was 4 in about .6" with 41.5 with the CCI250 with 41.0 with the WLR coming in a close second with 3 of 4 touching and all 4 in a shy inch. One group put its first shot low, second shot high, then proceeded to put 3-6 into about .75". Cant really explain the first two except the rifle had cooled and sat for a bit while I shot the LRB. I was very happy to see the 2460 do so well first time out, will be buying more of that stuff. Now I know, no pics, didn't happen, but at my local range, run by the county, there is only a couple of target changes a day and it was an hour away so the RM promised to save todays targets for me, so if he doesn't forget I will have the goods next week. Anyone else been using the 2460 much and had similar results?

Thanks from Deacon, nf1e, gettinolder and 5 others

Love to hear about this kind of a day.
Doesn't happen very often , but when it does you should hear the cheers go up for you from the East coast.
Well done.

Appreciate the work with AA2460 as I have 8# that I want to use in My scout. Hope it does as well.

I was looking for it or the slightly slower 2520? I think it is, but locally the 2460 was all I could find. The Accurate manual lists 42 grs as max with this bullet but I don't think I would want to go there until I had a chance to chrono 40.5grs.,, 38.5 and 39 were the tightest but all were good.

I really like A2460... especially with the lighter bullets like 125 tnt's and 135 SMK's. Right around 43.5 grains in LC brass for this little pills and you should be good.

I should mention both rifles are scoped, the LRB wears a Loopy USMC green set at 7X and the R/O has a 6X Springfield scope.

OK, here is where the target pics belong, not on the thread I posted them on a couple days ago. The target with 5 groups is the AA2460 loads with the LRB and the other two are loads shot with WC846 with the Rock Ola. All 168 SMK and at 100 yds bench with scopes. What a maroon... sorry for the confusion.
