Range report on my first M14 build

Hi all, been lurking this forum for a long time trying to read and learn about the platform as much as possible. Thanks a lot for contributing so much to the knowledge base for this gun as it really helped me out. That being said, I recently had an M25 built by the folks over at LRB Arms on a J Allen 100 and have been slowly working up loads to take me out to good distance. Had some good luck today with one of my latest test loads (175 gr. SMK on top of 40.5 grains of Varget). Second round hit at 600 yards and a first round hit at 750. I guess the next thing to try is playing around with the barrel band a bit and see how these groups start to work out. The top paster was to verify my zero with some 175 gr FGMM rounds. The cold bore shot is the one at 2 o'clock and the following 3 shots without adjustment to the scope came in under a minute.

The groups below were the other loads I was testing with different bullet types which were 168 gr. ELD-Ms, 175 gr. SMKs, and 178 gr. Hornady BTHP match. The first and last groups I ended up firing 10 rounds at since they seemed to have some fliers that opened the group up a bit. They both ended up coming in just a shade over 1 MOA so not too bad I guess. The best group was definitely the 175 SMKs with the center 5-shot group coming in at about 3/4 MOA. I shot another group with some of my previously tested 168 gr. SMKs at the top paster which ended up a bit over 1 MOA. They seem to be pretty reliable out to 600-700 yards but start to fall off in the 1,000 yard realm, but the 175s were doing alright.

Overall, pretty pleased with this rifle and can't wait to keep tweaking, testing, and learning with it.

Heck of a first post. Welcome !
Nice stick.....now put some different powder IMR-4895 ...IMR-4064....and more of it behind those 175's and let us know how it looks at a 1000.

Welcome from CT.
Very nice.
LRB put an M-25 together for me a few years ago with a Kreiger heavy stainless in a JAE. Pretty hard to beat that combination.
I put a Bula Defense XM21 together using their med NM barrel in a JAE Gen III and it comes very close.
With mine I have found that the Kreiger likes to have the barrel tensioner neutral while the Bula likes 1/2 turn after contact.
Enjoy your new rifle and keep us posted.
