If your rifle does not like 168 OTM, your rifle has an issue.

Get 1 box of federal 168 GMM, this is the gold standard.
Shoot irons at 50 yards off sandbags and bench. If your not grouping decent it's you or you have a rifle issue. You eliminated the scope, mount, and rings.

Yes, somewhat suspicious. Perhaps he meant "didn't like it" as in it was only good for 1-1/2 MOA? Hopefully it wasn't "Didn't like it" because it only got 7 MOA.

Your Gun did not like Federal 168 gr Match ammo.
Hmmmmmm. That is Strange. It usually makes a Gun shoot very well.

Stock change? Ammo Change? Scope removed?
Son I am afraid this Rifle has a Condition?

Thanks from Wasted ammo

Check to make sure the scratch in front of the sight adjustment is not a crack that would affect accuracy. 2nd did you use "blue" Loctite or equivalent thread locker on scope bases and rings to keep them from loosening up during recoil? 3rd try 147-150 grain factory bullet ammo to see how it patterns. Your barrel rifling might like the NATO standard bullet weight.

TBH that looks like a 2-3MOA on a good day rifle to me. Perhaps it has something to do with the way it fits in the stock, if it's binding against the gas cylinder, maybe the barrel sucks or you just haven't found ammo that it likes yet, it all depends on how much money and time you want to spend fighting it.

Or maybe it made a 2" group which wouldn't be that bad honestly.

Then, your rifle has more than 1 issue. It should t jam on an OTM.
Hardly a hollow point. You can barely see the opening in the open tip.

Send it back to Springfield.

Clean up your mag's feed lips and try decent ammo again.
If bullets are not heading right into the chamber it is usually sharp edges on the underside of feed lips that are causing crappy feed.

Hi Hobb,
One thing stuck out to me right away in your post. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Gen 4 SA mounts are 1913 pic rails, and you stated you were using weaver rings.....not compatible according to the blueprints. Maybe there is movement there?

Try going to 175 SMK and see if you gun likes these better. Mine was good for about 2 MOA off a rest with 168 SMK. After trying the 175 SMK, it put two Sub MOA with iron sights. One thing I was told was to change out the flat recoil spring guide for a Sadlak/NM round one due to the spring "S" snaking on recoil and not being consistent shot to shot on the flat one. I found out that there are a lot of little things and one being the barrel touching a bag will cause your accuracy to suffer quickly as the barrel harmonics are disturbed.

My M1A Loaded is about 2 years old (371xxx). With Federal XM80CL from bags on bench and irons, I can hit the 12"x18" steel about 4 out 5 at 200 yards. With my eyesight, I am aiming for the orange fuzzy spot in yonder distance.

Standing with a sling, I can get about 8 of 10 in scoring rings on 12" target at 100 yds.

The 168 gr Federal "Made for M1A" shoots 'high' compared with the XM80.

Not claiming to be any kind of marksman at present, but you may be on the "learning curve" of how the M14/M1A operates. We qualified with them annually on the submarine (SSN type), but that was many tides ago.

Re-learning things I forgot I knew. And at this point, any time I can get 10 holes on the 12" target from a 10 round magazine is an excellent day.
