At this point, I believe there are 2 possibilities:

1. Something went amiss with unitizing, damaging the gas cylinder.

2. The gas port in the barrel is too large, letting in way too much gas.

I'll try dialogue with smith about GC.

Seems more likely than Criterion overboring gas port hole.

Not necessarily. That's why I asked if it was a factory barrel. SAI has over 10 years experience with Socom barrels. The aftermarket companies do not. I would mic the port and run it by others here on the forum. The burn marks on your pistons are larger than normal.

Strike my dumb answer...

I reread a post by Kurt C, in which he said that if the gas cylinder is not shimmed, the gas simply pulls it forward flush to the gas lock...

Late but not never ...

Interesting topic you brought up. I'm enjoying the class time.
