"REAL" world accuracy with a SAR

.

Folks,

I don't post here a ton, but I do read a lot. Seems like almost every time I read a range report people are talking about sub MOA groups @ 100 yds.

I shoot at a public range quite often (just ask my wife about the ammo bills!) While there and visiting with / watching shooters with SAR type battle rifles, (M1A's AR10's, FAL, etc.) what I actually see (when folks take down their targets or I look through the scope) is closer to 3 to 4 MOA. This is shooting from the bench with a rested rifle, not offhand

Now the bolt action fellas can do the sub MOA thing and I've seen it IRL at the range, I just don't ever see it with SAR shooters IRL. My groups included, unless I'm really really lucky.

So the 64K dollar question is, what is real world accuracy for a SAR?

Baldur

2-4 moa is a good shooter. When the stars align for me I can get 5rnd 1moa groups but i shoot a normal 2moa with my m1a while rested on a bench. Depends on the Ammo and shooter too. I'm pretty impatient and shoot 1 shot every 5 seconds as well.

Most people are 2-3MOA shooters.

3-6 MOA, for a myriad of reasons. Most of them revolve around the operator, not equipment.

Most gun owners don't shoot that well, don't shoot enough and buy whatever's the cheapest they can find at the Big Box store.

They may be shooting an M1A Supermatch but it's sporting a B-Square soft aluminum mount and Tasco scope, both picked up off the clearance aisle at Wallyworld. The ammo? Steel cased, Russian made floor sweepings labeled "Blue Baboon" on the box.

BTW the scope will be canted badly and the scope mounts are loose. The user can't tighten them because he didn't have the correct torx bit so he found an allen wrech that kinda fit and stripped the head out.

They also shoot way too fast, treating the bench less like a stable position for precision shooting but more like an entrenched position, training to securely fend off the massive waves of the paper zombie target apocalypse.

I can go on, but you get it...

From our computers, All of us can hit a dime at 100 yds 10 out of 10 times so 1 MOA is child's play. But honestly, most of us are like Jarholder, 3-6 MOA on our good days.

3" to 4"

^^^On the average with decent ammo , off a rest.
I've noticed a lot of internet shooters make their best 100yd groups using the same kind of rifle .
