Finished bedding my big red

Finished bedding the top of my Freds big red birch stock. I used a barrel spacer and a reciever clamp I made at work. I used Brownells steel bed and car wax as a release agent and plumbers putty. I shimmed the spacer so the reciever heel was 1/2 inch above the stock and pulled it down so the heel just contacted the top of the stock. Seems to have bedded the reciever level with the stock with a decent amount of barrel tention at the fore end. The lock up is good and tight. I will bed the trigger group if the wood compresses and I lose a good lock up. This is the second stock I have done and it turned outmuch better than the first one.

Looks very good!

But ... why did you not bed the legs or the sides/shoulders of the rcvcr? Without those areas bedded, I would think that you may experience the rcvr moving side-to-side.

Why not reciever legs

Not really intending to build a match rifle, just a tighter service rifle stock. It already fit nice and tight on the reciever legs as is. I mess with it too much anyway, taking it apart and all. A full bed would not hold up with what I do with it right now.
