Bedding clay question

Is Play Doh a suitable clay for bedding, or is the Brownells Klean Klay better?

Whatever you choose, choose a hard clay. I chose a soft clay and it required more finish work. Harder clay will stay put.

I like the Kleen Clay the best. Play doh would not seal the voids very well I think. I would not trust it anyway.

Anything that hardens (e.g. play doh) is going to shrink as it dries and you risk the epoxy flowing into the places where it's critical that it doesn't.

I read long ago that Play Doh contains salt, which can lead to rust, whereas modeling clay doesn't. Brownells at least used to carry modeling clay.

When I bedded my m21 into a Big Red for service rifle I used good ol Walmart Crayola Modling clay. $1.29 a box then. and some good release agent.

Clay and bedding follow up

Used some modeling clay from the craft store as per suggestions and it worked great. Bedded a pre inletted Boyds stock. I did the receiver Friday and everything seemed to work fine, with the receiver fitting so tight I needed a wooden dowel and mallet to separate the two. I'm doing the TG today and will post pics of my first bedding job when finished. BTW this was a CMP HRA kit with 7.62 receiver and HRA barrel.
