Several years ago when I was mounting my first Sadlak mount on an M1A, the lady at Sadlak told me you can cant the mount to get extra MOAs from it for long range. I'm sure it's not an exact science, but it might be worth a try if you're trying to tweak another bit of adjustment from your scope.

I have a Mk4 M1 16x on my M1a and it has sufficient elevation to 1,000 using an ARMS mount and Mk4 rings. Likewise, the Mk4 M1 8.5x25 mounted to my AR with a GG&G has also proven quite sufficient. However, both my LR bolt guns use Farrell mounts to get the Premier Reticle prepped VariX-III 6.5x20 scopes out to 1,000 without hold over (10 MOA for the .300WM and 20MOA for the 7.62).

When Ted Brown gets done building my M25 I will have a 20 moa extended rail on it and I will go with a SWFA 5-20 X 50 scope on it. It has a 30mm tube and external turrets - in mil s like the reticule in mils and it is a FFP scope (First Focal plane). There are write ups in SWFA and Sniper Hide. HD glass. More than enough to get to 1000 yards. I got it for $1000 on a Sniperhide group buy. It is now waiting in my safe.

On my original Devine, I had a Leopold 2 X 7 mounted in the original Griffin and Howe claw hook mount. I tried to mount a Leopold 3.5 X 10, but the scope was super critical and I burnt up 300 rounds of PMC trying to shim it. It does depend on the mount and the rifle. If it's in NM shape... a good scope always helps. When you shoot PALMA (at least at DM), it's a two stage match:

Any rifle iron sights (NM iron sights)
Any rifle any sights.

Normal PALMA is 800. 900 and 1000, but at DM we only shot 1000.

That's where I pulled out the Leopold and slide it onto the mount and locked it down. Never had to check zero, it always held true. Sadly the US Military re-issued this mount with the Alaskan 2X scope on the early M21 "attempts" before the Leatherwood ART. That scope killed using the G&H mount and it's good. It was originally designed for the M1 C and D.

I have a Premier Reticles Heritage 3-15x50mm Light Tactical. It only has 12 mils of elevation travel but that gets 175 gr 7.62 out to a grand for me. Great glass, and the parallax knob still has some adjustment left over even at a grand. I use an ARMS mount and smith rings. 1'' tall rings I believe...
