follow the above link to the best Navy secret. You are missing the best the Navy has to offer, The Navy Rifle Team, and competing at the PACFLT Matches. Build your skills and test your skills. NM M14's are brought out each year, all gear required to compete is issued. Just bring your trigger finger.

If you have to ask then your question has been answered. You need more marksmanship skills.

In my 20 years of being in the Navy I never heard of this program till now. All I heard was rumors about it. Saw one Chief in "C" School that had the sleeve device but when I politely asked hime about it he said yes that he was a part of it and wouldn't divulge any further information. I glad to see that retires can participate in a space A situationl

I hear ya. I didn't really know about it until I had 14 in and I was previously stationed with the 1983 Presidents Match winner! It has a lot to do with commands not wanting their people to leave for a week and "shoot cans off the berm". the CO's don't see any value in marksmanship training. There is a fleet wide message put out every year to advertise it.
I think some of the problem is guys who think they can shoot go to the matches and get schooled, find out they can't compete and don't want to return and don't pass the word. Even the guys/gals that want to return can't always because of deployments and the participation has lessened over the years.

Thanks from yellowthunder

I just saw the first word out about 2012 matches. This is the East coast schedule so the west coast will be out shortly. watch the website.

here is a cut a past:

2012 Fleet & All Navy matches at Quantico open to all

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Service Rifle & Service Pistol shooters:

The 2012 Atlantic Fleet and All Navy Rifle & Pistol matches are going to be held on Marine Corps Base Quantico from 13-22 April, 2012. The big change this year is civilians will be allowed to compete alongside the service teams. Basic format is:

Fri: Registration and Small Arms Firing School
Sat: Rifle Warm-up Match (200 yards)
Sun: Rifle National Match Course
Mon: Rifle EIC & 1000 yard Any/Any match
Tue: Pistol SAFS & Warm-up match
Wed: Fleet Pistol Agg (NMC, P100, EIC)
Thu: All Navy Pistol Agg (NMC, P100, EIC)
Fri: All Navy Rifle NMC
Sat: All Navy Rifle EIC & 1000 Yard Any/Any match
Sun: All Navy Team match, awards & swap meet
Mon: Weather backup

Can't attach the match bulletin (too big), but it'll be up shortly on www.usnst.org (you can also view it at http://www.mdshooter...ead.php?t=74060). Registration is now up & running on the CMP website in Competition Tracker (under Competitions, Service Pistol, Upcoming Events and Competitions, Service Rifle, Upcoming Events http://clubs.odcmp.c....ation=EICRIFLE). Range capacity for 4 relays is 200 shooters, and I'd expect they'll have capacity for 40 civilian shooters.

Suggest you take gun off the bipod, replace support with good bag and place your left hand under the rifle to further reduce any "bounce" of forearm when firing. Your left hand is not gripping the forearm, but just serving as further support. Some bench shooters will use baby powder on the forward bag(no hand underneath) to lessen friction between forearm and bag so the rifle will return to battery after recoil and hopefully in the same spot. Also notice after firing you are adjusting the rifle from right to left, rolling it back to center line, and would guess that is also due to the bounce from the bipod set up. In short, rifle is in different position/placement after each shot which will cause different impact. Might suggest you take a "firm" grip, not white knuckle, but firm w/ firing hand and just for experiment purposes, place trigger finger w/ first joint seam of finger on right edge of trigger itself. Nothing magic about that, but only purpose is to establish a reference point so that you place your trigger finger back in the same place each time, consistancy, consistancy!! If you find that is not comfortable for you, go back to the finger pad, but important that you place in same spot each shot, Trigger pull may well be some of the spread of shots you are seeing?? Realize your rifle is not intended for bench shooting, but if trying to see just how well you and the rifle will shoot get off the bipod and see what happens. When making changes in techniqes, etc., make only one at a time and check results. Bipods certainly have their place, but not a fan of them for checking for best accuracy of rifle/shooter. Your bipod set up performance vs bag perfomance can be noted and predictable for future firings. Just some suggestions and hope it works out well for you.
Agreed with the bag to start with. I also tend to carry a sock full of rice or beans to put in my left hand held below my buttstock (I'm a righty). Squeeze the bag or realease it a little to make adjustments. Relieves some of the involuntary muscle movement as well.

A few of my squadron shipmates participate in this every year and do quite well. Our commadn supports 100%. Awesome program. Wish I had more time to join them.
